In an upcoming speech that will be given by President Obama at a back to school event in Arlington, Virginia tomorrow, the President mentions Harry Potter and JK Rowling. You can watch the speech tomorrow at 12:00 PM (EDT) at this link.
I know that sometimes, you get the sense from TV that you can be rich and successful without any hard work — that your ticket to success is through rapping or basketball or being a reality TV star, when chances are, you’re not going to be any of those things.
But the truth is, being successful is hard. You won’t love every subject you study. You won’t click with every teacher. Not every homework assignment will seem completely relevant to your life right this minute. And you won’t necessarily succeed at everything the first time you try.
That’s OK. Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who’ve had the most failures. JK Rowling’s first Harry Potter book was rejected twelve times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and he lost hundreds of games and missed thousands of shots during his career. But he once said, “I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
These people succeeded because they understand that you can’t let your failures define you – you have to let them teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently next time. If you get in trouble, that doesn’t mean you’re a troublemaker, it means you need to try harder to behave. If you get a bad grade, that doesn’t mean you’re stupid, it just means you need to spend more time studying.
Thanks very much to HP4U we have some awesome news on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows filming!
This, our dear Muggle friends, is the first (in close up) look at a section of the entrance to Luna Lovegood’s frenetic printing room at home in the village of Ottery St. Catchpole – decorated in true Luna style! [see that here in the MM gallery]
………… ‘around her door were numerous paintings of varied creatures, some of which it seems only Luna herself bears witness to. In the attic above was one of her many printers, which she uses to make the copies of her work for all her readers to mull over’
Keep checking back at their site (and ours because I will post when they do) for more exclusive filming photos and information!
David Ryall, as confirmed by his agency, will play Elphias Doge, a friend of Albus Dumbledore, in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We see Doge at Bill and Fleur’s wedding where he talks to Harry about Dumbledore.
The stars of my favorite new series, Merlin (YAY!), recently talked a bit about Harry Potter, in who would win in a fight, Merlin or Harry Potter. Of course Colin, who plays Merlin, says Merlin, and I think I may have to agree ;). There are spoilers for the first season of Merlin in this clip so just skip to the part where they talk about Harry Potter if you don’t want to be spoiled! The Harry Potter bit starts at 3:24, enjoy!
Celebrity Gossip has conformed that Emma is attending Brown University in Rhode Island. They have a few candid photos of her getting settled in on campus. Go here to see them, she looks like she is getting settled really nicely. Best of luck at school, Emma! Study hard!
This is (probably) the only time I will post about this since I feel she should have her privacy at school.
UPDATE: JustJared has added another particularly cute picture of Emma:
