HMV is running an online poll to find the best British album and film from the last 60 years to celebrate the Jubilee and the Olympic summer with Harry Potter obviously being among the movies! To be more specific, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II made the cut! To vote visit their Facebook page, you can also write in your own candidate (like any of the other 6 Potter films!)!

hmv is proud to be associated with the Music is GREAT campaign, which, in this very special year for Great Britain, celebrates everything that’s wonderful about British music and the fantastic contribution that it makes to our rich and diverse culture and to our nation’s standing around the world. By way of showing our support, and to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, we invite the public to vote for their greatest British albums and films of the past 60 years.

We’ve already polled everyone at hmv, and have come up with a longlist of classic albums and can’t-miss films. We know it’s hard to pick just one, so you can vote for up to five albums and films, and also vote for your favourite if it didn’t make the longlist.

As a big thank you to everyone taking part, we’re also giving one lucky person from the UK the chance to win all sixty films and albums on the list.

Some other films in the running are The King’s Speech, Love Actually, Atonement, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Goldfinger, Notting Hill and many more!

JK Rowling’s manuscript for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is set to be exhibited at the British Library from 25 May and running until 9 September 2012. It is part of a larger exhibition entitled Writing Britain: Wastelands to Wonderlands and includes other visionaries, such as, John Lennon, JRR Tolkein, William Shakespeare and more! The description of the exhibition is as follows:

[...] explores treasures from the last 1000 years of English literature that have been shaped by the country’s unique spaces and places. From idyllic rural landscapes to gritty cities, the exhibition will showcase a literary map of the British Isles and highlight how writers, from William Shakespeare and Walter Scott to John Lennon and J K Rowling, have recorded the changing spaces of the British Isles in some of their greatest literary works, and in turn inspired their readers to explore the country in new ways.

Named as one of the highlights of the exhibition,

the original manuscript for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, lent by the author, describes Harry Potter’s first encounter with platform 9 ¾ in London’s King’s Cross station. Carefully avoiding the stopping trains via Cuffley and Bayford (strictly for Muggles only), he should pass between Platforms 9 and 10 to reach a magical passage to a fantastic parallel world. This manuscript is part of the exhibition’s ‘Cockney Visions’ section, looking at literature inspired by London.

The LA Times is reporting that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is set to be built at Universal Studios Japan, an official announcement is expected to be released tomorrow. According to the article,

Universal Studios Japan on Thursday will unveil plans to build the first international version of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the blockbuster attraction that has drawn millions of fans to Universal’s Orlando resort and is coming to Los Angeles.

The Osaka destination — expected to begin construction in the next few weeks with a planned opening in late 2014 and an expected cost of about $500 million — brings Hogwarts Castle and rides including Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey to the boy wizard’s biggest market outside of the United States.

“A lot of work goes into building these parks, so we’re probably at the limit of what we could manage at the moment,” said Globe. “But if some other great opportunity for Harry Potter presents itself, we would certainly take a look at it.”

In a statement, Rowling gave her stamp of approval to the newest addition to her Harry Potter empire: “I was delighted to experience and enjoy the attention to detail, creativity and superb craft that went into the first Wizarding World in Orlando,” she said. “I am equally delighted that the same level of expertise and enjoyment will translate to the new park in Japan.”

Fans will recall that the Wizarding World in Los Angeles isn’t scheduled to open until 2016, so fans in Japan will be getting Potter much sooner. Universal Orlando will also have an expansion to include more attractions.

The Harry Potter Wizards Collection website has released another new feature today. To unlock the feature fans must use their wands to make a special gesture (once on the website, click wand gestures and scroll to number 7). This gesture displays a clip from one of the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban discs, featuring goblins. They have released new information on what will be included in the collection, which is as follows:

Year 3 – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban™
Four discs include:
1) Theatrical version on Blu-ray
2) Theatrical version on DVD
3) Special Features on DVD
4) Creating the World of Harry Potter – Part 3: Creatures on Blu-ray

Rating: PG: SOME SCARY MOMENTS, CREATURE VIOLENCE, AND MILD LANGUAGE

Creating the World of Harry Potter Part 3: Creatures
Soar on the back of Buckbeak. Battle a Hungarian Horntail. Trace Voldemort’s terrifying transformation from grotesque infant-like creature to Dark Lord. Fascinating footage lets you experience the Harry Potter world of creatures through new eyes with this revealing look at a new group of wizards: the artists who create the monsters and marvels. Roam the Creature Shop, where actors turn into beasts and sketches turn into animatronic wonders. Join Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as they share stories about acting opposite everything from tiny computer-generated pixies to a four-ton mechanical spider (guess which young star is really afraid of spiders). New discoveries and new revelations all make your journeys into Harry’s world even more thrilling!

[...] sales of the physical copies of the seven titles had also increased, and that because of the site’s light-touch Digital Rights Management, piracy had diminished. “Obviously there were fears piracy would increase as a result of being DRM-free, and that sales of the e-books would cannibalise sales of the physical titles, but we were delighted to see sales of the physical books go up, and piracy come down.” Redmayne said that though there had been an increase in piracy immediately after launch, the community had rejected these illegal versions because of how the e-books were brought to market. “We have demonstrated that if you make these books available in the way that people want them, and on a platform that is accessible to them, and at a price they are happy with, then then generally people will chose to buy them.”

Of the weird launch time, Redmayne said: “Given how we launched it, at 8.15 in the morning when most people were asleep, almost anti-marketing it, we were very pleased. It has been amazingly successful and shows the power of the Harry Potter brand.” Some statistics on the site have also been revealed:

Pottermore, the Harry Potter experience, has seen 22 million visits from 7 million unique users in its first two weeks, generating more than 1 billion page impressions, with the average user visiting 47 pages, spending 25 minutes on the site.

Redmayne said there had been 4.2m attempts to make potions, with a success rate of just 32%.

In those first two weeks there had been 39.9m “wizard duels” with the “full body bind” spell the most popular, and “pimple jinx” the least used.

After two weeks 5m new users had registered, with perhaps half of those already sorted into houses, such as Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.
