James and Oliver Phelps to Open Birmingham Children’s Center
Posted by Megs

According to this article, James and Oliver Phelps will be in attendance at the opening of The Deanery Children’s Centre at 11am on Thursday May 27th.

The pair, whose real names are James and Oliver Phelps, are to open a new children’s centre in Sutton Coldfield later this month. Currently in America launching a new theme park attraction based on Hogwarts school, the Phelps will bring a touch of Potter magic when they unveil a plaque at the Deanery Children’s Centre in Walmley on May 27th. The famous twins who were born in Sutton Coldfield and are supporting Birmingham’s City of Culture bid, agreed to appear at the event because of their local connections.

Their mother, Sue Phelps, from Sutton Coldfield, said: “James and Oliver have agreed to open the centre because they are proud of their Birmingham roots. They will be coming home soon from the States where they have been promoting the new Hogwarts Theme Park at Universal Studios in Florida. I am very proud of them. The lifestyle they have had to deal with hasn’t changed them. They are still very down-to-earth. One supports Aston Villa and the other Birmingham City. But they are both really proud of their Birmingham connection.”

The Deanery Children’s Centre is situated on the premises of Deanery Church of England Primary School and will serve families in the Walmley and Minworth area. It is part of a network of centres across the city that aim to provide a one-stop support network for families with young children under five. It will offer a range of services relevant to young families ranging from help with post and antenatal depression to gaining employment, dealing with drug and alcohol abuse and parenting.

Children’s centre manager Jackie D’Arcy said: “It is absolutely brilliant that James and Oliver are supporting us. I am passionate about what we offer to the local community and keen that people know what we do here and how we can support them. The twins will really help put us on the map and I am very grateful to them both.”
