The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has released the longlist of nominations for this year’s BAFTA awards and Harry Potter is vying for a few awards. It was longlisted for every category it was eligible for except for Best Film and Director (it was not nominated for Film Not in the English Language, Documentary or Animated Film and Original Screenplay for obvious reasons.)

  • Outstanding British Film
  • Editing
  • Adapted Screenplay
  • Production Design
  • Cinematography
  • Make Up & Hair
  • Costume Design
  • Sound
  • Special Visual Effects
  • Original Music
  • Supporting Actor: Alan Rickman for Deathly Hallows

The cast members of the series are also up for some awards:

  • Leading Actor: Brendan Gleeson for The Guard, Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,  Ralph Fiennes for Coriolanus
  • Supporting Actor: Jim Broadbent for The Iron Lady, John Hurt for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Kenneth Branagh for My Week with Marilyn
  • Supporting Actress: Zoe Wanamaker for My Week with Marilyn

With 285 films entered this year, the first round of voting reduced the list of eligible films to 15 in each category. Round Two voting, which opens today, will reduce these 15 contenders down to the five nominations in each category. Appearing on the Longlist does not constitute a nomination. Nominations in all categories will be announced on Tuesday 17 January. The winners will be announced at the Orange British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 12 February.

Daniel Radcliffe Talks Love, Drinking and Potter with Parade
Posted by Megs

Parade Magazine has posted a preview of their interview with Daniel Radclife.  The full interview will appear in this weekend’s PARADE magazine. Some snippets may be read below:

Why was that?
“I hated dating because I’m crap at it! [laughs] With Rosie, I didn’t know what was appropriate, like on which date you’re supposed to try and kiss her. At the end of the second date I pulled a move out of the Bela Lugosi Book of Woo—I went to kiss Rosie and at the last minute lost my nerve and ended up kissing her neck, which is such a weirdly intimate place to kiss somebody on a second date. Afterward, I texted her, saying, ‘I’m sorry, what I just did probably seems very odd to you.’ Fortunately, she just found it really funny, so she kept coming back.”

Last year you gave up alcohol. Why?
“My inner life was being drowned. I’ve worked with Richard Harris, Gary Oldman, all those actors who went crazy when they were young, and I always wanted that. The idea of that kind of life and chaos was always so appealing to me. Unfortunately, the way I do it, there is no romance to it! [laughs] There is nothing glorious or triumphant about it—it was pathetic, boring, and unhappy.”

You’ve had enormous success for someone so young. Do you fear that it won’t last?
“Yes. But it’s reality, not fear. It will happen, and I have accepted that. In a way it’s a great relief that I will never, ever do a film as successful as the Harry Potter series. But neither will anybody else. [laughs] Or it will take them a long time.”

Video: Daniel Radcliffe’s Farewell Speech for How to Succeed
Posted by Megs

Yesterday, January 1st, was Daniel Radcliffe’s final performance as J. Pierrepont Finch in the Broadway show How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. As we posted back last month, Daniel was named Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainer of the Year and, more recently, Broadway.com fans voted him as Star of the Year. A video of his co-stars congratulating him on the honor may be seen here on Broadway.com.

After his performance on Sunday, Daniel made a speech thanking the fans for their support and the cast and crew of the show for working with him. Congratulations Daniel on an amazing run as Mr Finch. I was fortunate enough to see the show back in July and Daniel was amazing, for those of you that also saw the play, what did you think?
