Thanks so much to my friend Suraya for doing a report of when she met JK Rowling in Canada during her 2007 open book tour!
The event took place at the Winter Garden Theatre, which, in my opinion, was the perfect location. It has a nice, cozy feel to it, perfect for a book reading. Also, it’s not too large, so everyone in the theatre is relatively close to the stage, and the topmost priority of every fan in the room was to be as close to our hero as possible.
It was amazing to hear her read the words that we all had read ourselves months before (possibly multiple times). For me, it was even better than seeing it performed in the movies (though I’ve never seen an interpretation of this scene) because she knows these characters better than anyone. She knows what they’re thinking, how they would say things. So, her tone, her expression, everything; it was all spot on.

Today, JK Rowling has updated her site once again to discuss the Lexicon book issue.
Lexicon Continued
As you may have read, on 8 November, 2007 a judge in New York granted an order against RDR Books in respect to the proposed book The Harry Potter Lexicon, such order applying to any proposed licensing of the book worldwide.
Judge Patterson has imposed a restraining order on the publishers of the Lexicon, which will remain in place until February 2008. This means that the book can not be completed, published or marketed until the court has had time to decide whether it would break the law if published in its present form.
I take no pleasure in the fact that publication has been prevented for the present. On the contrary, I feel massively disappointed that this matter had to come to court at all. Despite repeated requests, the publishers have refused to even countenance making any changes to the book to ensure that it does not infringe my rights.
Unless their position changes, we will all return to court next year. Given my past good relations with the Lexicon fansite, I can only feel sad and disillusioned that this is where we have ended up.

Time magazine is going under considerations for Person of the Year for 2007 and JK Rowling is on the list! They list the pros and cons for her being person of the year:
Pro: Finished a seven-book epic that will be read by children (and lots of adults) for generations to come. Slowly creeping up on Agatha Christie as the most read author not named Shakespeare.
Con: Seventh book wasn’t her best, and hard to argue she was the most important person of 2007.
So head over to the link above and Rate JKR! She is currently in first place.

Harper’s Bazaar magazine has released their annual list of the best dressed women in Britain, and coming in at number seven was J.K. Rowling. The Telegraph reports that JKR (“increasingly glamourous”) “is more guarded with her style and earlier this year appeared in a floor-length, peppermint goddess gown at a charity event at Hampton Court Palace.” Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) is the number 24 spot. Ireland Online has the entire list , which will be found in the December issue of Harper’s Bazaar due out this week.

There is lots more information out about the seven books mentioned in the last news post. So here it all is:
From JKRs site:
Each of the seven copies of “The Tales of Beedle the Bard” has a different dedication; all are leather-bound and embellished with silver and different semi-precious stones. The seventh book (the Moonstone edition) will be auctioned at Sotheby’s in London on December 13th 2007. The book will be on display to the public for a short period before the sale, and catalogues will be sold, all profits going to the Children’s Voice.
From Sotheby’s:
A special commemorative catalogue for this unique item is being produced and will be available to purchase from Sotheby’s. The 48 page commemorative catalogue contains a message from the author about the creative inception of ‘The Tales of Beedle the Bard’ plus images from the manuscript itself. The prices of the catalogue are as follows:
US Domestic: 16.00 USD US Int’l: 16.00 USD UK Domestic: 8.00 GBP UK Int’l: 8.00 GBP

JK Rowling updated her site yesterday to say:
It’s common knowledge that I love genuine Harry Potter fansites, which is why I created my own award to recognise their creativity and ingenuity.
It’s also old news that I hope one day to write the definitive Harry Potter encyclopedia, which will include all the material that never made it into the novels, and that I will give the royalties from this book to charity.
I cannot, therefore, approve of “companion books” or “encyclopedias” that seek to pre-empt my definitive Potter reference book for their authors’ own personal gain. The losers in such a situation would be the charities, that I hope, eventually, to benefit.
YAY!
