New David Heyman Interview
Posted by Megs

David Heyman, the producer of the Harry Potter films has given a new interview where he discusses the movies. In the interview he says “I regard myself as the protector of Jo’s books”.

Entertainment Weekly recently named Heyman near the top of its list of the “50 smartest people in Hollywood,” stating that “he has done just about everything right … including bonding with author J.K. Rowling and wisely seeking her input. He helped find unexpected directors (e.g. Alfonso Cuaron, David Yates) who’ve kept things fresh. And he’s kept the cast intact through five films, without any of his three teenage stars succumbing to a Lohanesque episode…. The franchise’s success rests on a thousand micro-choices Heyman made, including creating a world, on set and on screen, where people want to be.”

David Heyman Interview

Thanks to Tom Felton Daily we have scans from Movie Magic Magazine that have a new interview with David Heyman, who talks about Draco’s character in Half-Blood Prince.  See the scans HERE!

MM:  Is Yates continuing to push the actors the way that he did in the last film?

David Heyman:  A perfect example of that is Tom Felton as Malfoy.  I think Tom’s always been wonderful, but he’s always played it slightly more heightened.  he’s been the villain, as it were.  But in this film, partly because it’s in the book, partly because of what we’ve chosen to emphasize in the script and partly because of what David (Yates) is bringing out as director, it’s a much more complex role – and Tom Felton is embracing that.  He is the chosen one just like Harry is the chosen one. He’s been chosen by Voldemort to kill Dumbledore just as Harry is the “chosen one” and Voldemort is his destiny.  Draco is not altogether comfortable with the task he’s been given. On the one hand, he’s excited about making a name for himself and the import, but he struggles with his conscience and whether it’s something he wants or should be doing.  And those nuances that Tom is bringing to it are terrific.  It feels like a deeper, richer character than we’ve been able to see to date.

David Heyman talks DH

Empire magazine has a new interview with Harry Potter producer David Heyman where he talks about Deathly Hallows.

There’s always been difficulty making sure that the ones that are two hours, two and a half hours long making sure that those are the right length. I think by having two films that are two and a half hours although we’re not sure of the length then it will be a richer experience. One of the challenges that faces us, which we’ve been discussing, is how to give each film its own identity. We want them to feel like one film, but they’ve got to be self-contained too. We feel now that we’ve got a really good angle on that. But we haven’t got a script yet on either part, so I don’t want to say too much.

Entertainment Weekly has named Harry Potter producer David Heyman their 9th Smarted Person in Hollywood. The list comprises of 50 great people in movie making. Here is what they had to say about David:

9. DAVID HEYMAN
AGE 46
JOB TITLE Producer
SMART BECAUSE He has expertly steered the highest-grossing global franchise in film history. Heyman secured the rights to the Harry Potterbooks in 1997 and has done just about everything right since, including bonding with author J.K. Rowling and wisely seeking her input. He helped find unexpected directors (e.g., Alfonso Cuaron, David Yates) who’ve kept things fresh. And he’s kept the cast intact through five films, without any of his three teenage stars succumbing to a Lohanesque episode. While Warner Bros. president Alan Horn deserves credit for making the correct macro decisions, the franchise’s success rests on a thousand micro choices Heyman made, including creating a world, on set and on screen, where people want to be.

There is a new interview with Harry Potter producer David Heyman online.

But David Heyman, who’s produced the five “Potter” films to date and expects to finish the series by 2010, is quite aware of the budding talent populating the franchise — and he doesn’t just mean Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. He’s just as proud of Sean Biggerstaff, Tom Felton and Devon Murray.
