Last week we posted a rumor stating that Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron was in “talks” to direct the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films. And, just as we predicted, it turns out to be false.
“It was a very beautiful experience for me. I have a lot of love for that universe and I tremendously admire J.K. Rowling, but today, for the present, projects based around lots of visual effects don’t attract me. I’m coming out of a five-year process of doing visual effects and now I sort of want to clean my palate of that a little bit,” the director said.
This should obviously be taken with a grain of salt since this was not posted by someone close to the film, but it is interesting to note that Alfonso may be in the running to direct. Fans know and love him from directing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and the recent Academy Award winning Gravity. David Heyman has already been announced to produce the films, and he worked with Alfonso on both Potter and Gravity, so it is definitely a possibility.
The nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards have been announced and a few familiar names from the Harry Potter films have been nominated. Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuarón has been nominated for Gravity while composers John Williams and Alexandre Desplat are up for best score.
Best Original Score:
“The Book Thief” John Williams
“Gravity” Steven Price
“Her” William Butler and Owen Pallett
“Philomena” Alexandre Desplat
“Saving Mr. Banks” Thomas Newman
Best Film Editing:
“American Hustle” Jay Cassidy, Crispin Struthers and Alan Baumgarten
“Captain Phillips” Christopher Rouse
“Dallas Buyers Club” John Mac McMurphy and Martin Pensa
Since we will not have our actual photos and videos up for a few days I thought I would let everyone know what is coming from the Grand Opening of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter. Myself, Feltbeats and Harry Potters Page worked together to get photos and interviews with the stars.
We interviewed Tom Felton, Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright, Harry Melling, Nick Moran, David Bradley, Nick Dudman, Mike Newell, Director David Yates, and Producers David Heyman, and David Barron. We also have footage of Alfonso Cuaron, Evanna Lynch, George Harris and a few others. In addition to interviews we also spotted David Thewlis, Natalia Tena, Warwick Davis, Alfie Enoch, Helen McCrory, Chris Rankin.
Just as a teaser we asked Harry Melling (Dudley) what it was like moving from playing a muggle in Harry Potter to a wizard in the last series of Merlin!
Photos and video will be up as soon as possible when I get home! We will also have a video from the press conference held last Thursday when WB sends it over! So make sure to stay tuned!
A very rough video of Stephen Fry introducing the Outstanding Contribution to Cinema award to the Harry Potter series has appeared online via YouTube. J.K. Rowling, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, David Heyman, David Barron, Mike Newell, David Yates, and Alfonso Cuaron went on stage to accept the award. Hopefully a better quality version will be released, if so I will update this post.
