Un-boxing: USAopoly’s Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle
Posted by Megs

Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle

USAopoly have released a brand new deck building game, Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle! Take on the role of Harry, Hermione, Ron or Neville and battle against the Dark Arts to save Hogwarts. Players work together to acquire Items, Allies and Spells to defeat the Villains and win the game. So grab 2-4 friends and get battling! We haven’t had a chance to play the game yet so this is just an un-boxing post.

Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle

There are 7 different games each based on one of the Potter films. As you play you integrate them into one another. For example, when you beat Game 1 you add cards from Game 2, then Game 3 and so on. They increase in difficulty as you add different villains to defeat and locations to save.  As you win each game (by defeating the villains) you add the next set of cards from the following game. Your characters may get stunned and you’ll have to take penalties to continue gameplay. Cards are labeled with the game they’re from so you can easily start from the beginning without getting confused.

The game is beautifully made and of the best quality. Many games these days skimp on production but each piece of this game has been meticulously designed and in the Potter theme. Included in the box are the gameboard, 7 sets of cards, player boards, villain tokens and chip pieces.

A summary of the film was also released by Warner Bros. and it gives us some great new insight into the film’s themes.

There are growing dangers in the wizarding world of 1926 New York. Something mysterious is leaving a path of destruction in the streets, threatening to expose the wizarding community to the Second Salemers, a fanatical faction of No-Majs (American for Muggles) bent on eradicating them. And the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, after wreaking havoc in Europe, has slipped away… and is now nowhere to be found.

Unaware of the rising tensions, Newt Scamander arrives in the city nearing the end of a global excursion to research and rescue magical creatures, some of which are safeguarded in the hidden dimensions of his deceptively nondescript leather case. But potential disaster strikes when unsuspecting No-Maj Jacob Kowalski inadvertently lets some of Newt’s beasts loose in a city already on edge—a serious breach of the Statute of Secrecy that former Auror Tina Goldstein jumps on, seeing her chance to regain her post. However, things take an ominous turn when Percival Graves, the enigmatic Director of Magical Security at MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), casts his suspicions on both Newt… and Tina.

Now allied, Newt and Tina, together with Tina’s sister, Queenie, and their new No-Maj friend, Jacob, form a band of unlikely heroes, who must recover Newt’s missing beasts before they come to harm. But the stakes are higher than these four outsiders—now branded fugitives—ever imagined, as their mission puts them on a collision course with dark forces that could push the wizarding and No-Maj worlds to the brink of war.

Jim Kay on illustrating Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Posted by Megs

Bloomsbury has released a new video interview with illustrator Jim Kay where he discusses his process for drawing scenes from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the Illustrated Edition, out today in the United States and United Kingdom!

They have also released a few new illustrations from the book that you can see in our gallery! Photos include gnomes, Harry playing Quidditch, a view of Hogwarts, Dobby and more!

From the press release:

Bloomsbury continues its landmark publishing of the Harry Potter series with the release of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Illustrated Edition. This is the first fully illustrated edition of J.K. Rowling’s second Harry Potter novel and continues Jim Kay’s stunning interpretation of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world.

As Harry Potter’s second year at Hogwarts takes him on another magical adventure, readers will be able to enjoy key moments such as the Ford Anglia flying over The Burrow, Harry and Ron’s meeting with Aragog and the battle with the Basilisk rendered in Jim Kay’s unique and glorious style. Key characters also get the Jim Kay treatment including Gilderoy Lockhart, Moaning Myrtle and fan favourite Dobby.

After Bloomsbury approached J.K. Rowling with the idea of creating colour illustrated editions of the seven Harry Potter novels, award-winning artist Jim Kay was chosen unanimously by publisher and author to illustrate the books. Jim Kay’s artwork is brimming with rich detail and humour that perfectly complements J.K. Rowling’s timeless classic.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Illustrated Edition was published to huge acclaim in October 2015 and has already sold over 120,000 copies in the UK and many more in other languages. The second book will be published simultaneously throughout the world, marking it as another truly global publication.

All seven titles in the Harry Potter series are set to become beautiful illustrated editions. Jim Kay and Bloomsbury are already hard at work on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, to be published in October 2017.

With colour artwork on every page Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Illustrated Edition is a wonderful addition to the Harry Potter canon, and a dazzling depiction of the wizarding world that will captivate fans and new readers alike.
