Cover Art Released for US & UK Versions of Quidditch Through the Ages Illustrated Edition
Posted by Megs

Back in April 2019, we shared the announcement of an illustrated edition of the Harry Potter companion book Quidditch Through the Ages. We revealed that it would be illustrated by Emily Gravett and published in hardcover on October 6th 2020 – previously it was the 1st. There will be a regular edition as well as a Deluxe edition.

Today, Bloomsbury and Scholastic have sent over their covers and have released several illustrations from inside the book!

A full press release can be read below:

Bloomsbury Children’s Books today reveals the cover of the full-colour illustrated edition of J.K. Rowling’s Quidditch Through the Ages illustrated by Emily Gravett. The cover showcases some of the key elements of Harry Potter’s favourite sport – including players, team badges and a hovering Golden Snitch waiting to be caught. Devoured by Harry Potter in his first year, Quidditch Through the Ages is consulted on a daily basis by the young witches and wizards at Hogwarts, and this beautifully illustrated edition is set to become a firm favourite for readers of all ages who dream of grabbing a broomstick and taking to the skies.

Publishing in the UK and US on 6th October 2020, Quidditch Through the Ages Illustrated Edition features showstopping artwork from Emily Gravett, twice winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal. Emily’s wildly creative imagination has conjured a cornucopia of sporting memorabilia to surprise and delight. With some items lovingly created in a dazzling range of media and infused with her trademark visual wit, these charming and funny artworks are the perfect pairing for J.K. Rowling’s humorous insights into the magical, airborne sport.

Quidditch Through the Ages invites readers to take a whistle-stop tour through wizarding history, reliving epic matches and great moments along the way. Accessible at any point in the Harry Potter reading journey, it is packed with trivia, tales of on-pitch antics, and Quidditch stars past and present. The sports almanac also contains comprehensive profiles of teams loved by readers of the Harry Potter novels.

Quidditch Through the Ages first appears in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. After catching Harry Potter with a copy, it is also the reason that Professor Snape invents the rule that no library books are allowed outside of Hogwarts School. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone continues to mesmerise readers, and in 2019 was the bestselling backlist title across all children’s publishing with over 177,000 copies sold. The full Harry Potter series took the top seven spots in a 2020 chart of favourite book as chosen by primary school students, and was recently selected by thousands of young Blue Peter viewers as its ultimate Blue Peter Book Award winner.

A percentage of proceeds from the sale of this edition will go to J.K. Rowling’s own international charity Lumos, which helps some of the world’s most vulnerable children and young people to have a better life; and to Comic Relief. Scholastic are set to publish in the US at the same time.

Bloomsbury has revealed the cover for the new illustrated edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, illustrated by Chris Riddell. It will be published in hardback on 2nd October 2018 for £25 with a Deluxe Edition available for £120. The cover can be seen in high resolution in the gallery.

Bloomsbury Children’s Books today reveals the cover of the full-colour Illustrated Edition of J.K. Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard illustrated by Chris Riddell. The cover brings together some of the main characters from the five wizarding fairytales in the book, including Babbitty Rabbitty and the Hopping Pot. Much loved by generations of witches and wizards since they first appeared in the fifteenth century, this beautifully illustrated edition is set to become a firm favourite at bedtime in non-magical households the world over.

Publishing on 2nd October 2018, The Tales of Beedle the Bard Illustrated Edition features show-stopping illustrations for all five tales and Dumbledore’s accompanying notes. Chris Riddell, three times winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal, bestselling author and former Children’s Laureate, brings J.K. Rowling’s text to life with beautiful ink and watercolour artwork.

Mischievous and witty, these five rollicking tales are a deeply satisfying read in the tradition of all great fables and fairytales. Kindnesses are rewarded and selfishness shown to be the ruin of many a wizard. Burping cauldrons, hairy hearts and cackling stumps are met along the way. Each of the tales is accompanied by a deliciously subversive and insightful commentary by Professor Albus Dumbledore. Translated from the runes by Hermione Granger, The Tales of Beedle the Bard also includes ‘The Tale of the Three Brothers’, familiar to readers of Harry Potter from the crucial role it played in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Proceeds from the sale of this edition will go to J.K. Rowling’s own international charity Lumos, which helps some of the world’s most vulnerable children and young people to have a better life.
