Yesterday, after spending a few days at the LeakyCon fan convention in Orlando, Evanna Lynch and Scarlett Byrne (Pansy) visited The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and tried on some Spectrespecs! “Irish actress Evanna Lynch, known for her role as Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter film series, stopped to admire the Quibbler display and try on a pair of Spectrespecs at Dervish and Banges, a magical supplies and equipment shop at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter on Monday, July 18, 2011. Lynch was hosted by Universal Orlando Resort, spending some time at the theme parks while attending a Harry Potter fan conference in Orlando. Lynch played a role in the final installment of the Harry Potter film series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,” which debuted on Friday.”
Universal have sent over a short video of their celebrations for the one year anniversary of the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter which was held yesterday at the park.

Universal have emailed this afternoon with news about the One-Year Anniversary celebration for the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park! They sent over a press release that you can read in its entirety on this page as well as an image that you can see in the gallery. The Universal Facebook page has also been updated with a “Share Your Story” tab where fans can share their stories from the theme park, or explain why they would like to attend. If you submit a story (and live in the US) you will also be entered into a contest to win a trip to Universal in the fall, more details on this may be read in the press release.
Universal Orlando commemorated the anniversary at 9:23 a.m. – the exact time The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened on June 18, 2010. After taking part in a countdown led by the Hogwarts Express conductor, guests and team members celebrated in the streets of Hogsmeade while “snow” confetti and gold streamers fell from the sky. Guests also enjoyed complimentary Butterbeer, cauldron cakes and Chocolate Frogs.
“We’re so excited to celebrate this milestone with our guests,” said Bill Davis, president of Universal Orlando Resort. “It’s been an incredible year for us and our guests, and we look forward to creating more exciting memories with them in the years to come.”
Tonight the Webby Awards are taking place and Daniel Radcliffe presented the award for Best Fashion Website to Anna Wintour of VOGUE Magazine. You can watch him present the award by heading to this link, clicking Highlights and finding the video titled “Anna Wintour for Vogue.com”
Universal Orlando Resort’s website for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has received two of the highest honors for excellence on the Internet – The Webby Award and the People’s Voice Award for “Best Tourism Website.”
“From the very beginning, our Interactive and Creative teams strived to imagine beyond normal boundaries and assume anything was possible with this website,” said Al Callier, vice president of interactive development and web production. “These awards are an outstanding honor and a testament to the hard work of many extraordinary creative minds.”
