Jessie Cave talked with Digital Spy about her new show, Bookworm, as well as her upcoming film Great Expectations. Bookworm will be at Underbelly Cowgate at the Edinburgh Fringe from August 4-26. Tickets are available now by clicking here.
What’s Bookworm all about?
“The idea is that it’s the launch of this book club that I’ve made and everyone in the audience are members. It’s the big day, it means everything to me. It’s about introducing the idea of Bookworms United to all these people.”
Do you feel prepared for a month-long onslaught at Edinburgh?
“I do feel prepared, I’ve planned this to the last minute detail since I decided I wanted to go up in September, and it means organizing everything. Everything on Pindippy is stuff I’ve done, and I do absolutely everything. That’s not going to change with Edinburgh.”
You worked with your sister on Great Expectations – was that something you were a bit hmmm… about?
“Bebe got the part because of me. Bebe comes everywhere with me. All of my sketches… she’s in Bookworm, she’s my sidekick. There’s a joke in my play about I bred her especially to be my bookworm and it’s true! I have three brothers and I said to my mom and dad, ‘You’re having another baby!’ I just prayed and prayed to have a sister and I did. She was the best gift ever.”
She has also released a new video in the series with Evanna Lynch where Jessie asks Evanna to join her book club.
Evanna Lynch and Gary Oldman have joined Dominic Monaghan and Joanne Whalley in Monster Butler, a crime thriller that will be shooting in Scotland starting this week. The film tells the true story of Roy Fontaine, a bisexual jewel thief, con man AND serial killer. According to The Hollywood Reporter:
Evanna will be playing Fiona Carrick-Smith, who is intrigued by her upper class family’s new and seemingly all-knowing butler. Seeing him as an older, wiser confidant, she confesses her misgivings for her upcoming marriage and her longing for dangerous excitement. She soon acts on her desires with acts of reckless behaviour that lead to betrayal and tragedy.
Gary Oldman will be Wiggy, “a taxidermist with anger issues and business on the side who partners with Fontaine on a number of crimes before things get heavy.”

“I have a guest appearance on a TV show that’s premiering this summer,” the 20-year-old Irish actress teased to us. “I’ll be in the finale episode and hopefully it’ll turn into a more regular role. I’m just really excited about that. It’s a great series and has an amazing cast.”
JJ: How did shooting TV compare to your film experiences? EL: I was excited and nervous because it was the first thing I did since Harry Potter, so it was the first thing I kind of felt like, you know this is job. Harry Potter was my childhood and it felt very safe and this was something I was excited about. I wanted to work and meet new people.
JJ: You have a Michael Jackson tattoo… EL: Yeah, I’ve had that for a while. I got that on my 18th birthday. I just always wanted a tattoo and it’s a place where I don’t see it so I don’t ever get tired of it. I think it’s fun because people don’t expect it of me.
JJ: I know you like Disney. Who is your favorite princess? EL: I love Ariel. I got her autograph. (laughs)
JJ: That would be an awesome movie, right? EL: Yeah, absolutely yes! I think they should do like a dark one, like how they’ve done Snow White. Maybe they could do the real fairytale. The real fairy tale is where she dies at the end and he doesn’t love her in return.I think there’s sort of a message in there like wasted opportunities. Like she always wants to be this something. It is sad, but I think it would be interesting.
JJ: Would you dye your hair red? EL: Absolutely, yeah. I can’t swim, though, so that’s a problem.
JJ: Do you have any secret hobbies? EL: I do a lot of yoga…I’m training to be a teacher. I enjoy it. It keeps me calm. I like art. I go to art galleries a lot.
