Illustrated by Levi Pinfold, who created 2017’s spectacularly successful House Editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the covers will feature an interpretation of the door to the Chamber of Secrets, with beautiful iconography and features woven in to the design that are particular to that house.

The paperbacks will be black with artwork in the corresponding house colours. Both editions will contain additional content including an illustration of the house common room by Levi Pinfold, a house introduction and a mini-feature on house-elves.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was first published in 1998 and continued Harry Potter’s adventures at Hogwarts. It introduced some of the most-loved characters from the wizarding world, including Dobby the house- elf.

The 20th anniversary House Editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone published last year were a huge success selling over 180,000 copies (UK TCM) across all eight editions. They became the backbone of the huge campaign for the 20th anniversary that included breaking a Guinness World Record, a celebratory video of fan favourite moments that has been viewed over 10 million times, and the must-see Harry Potter: A History of Magic  exhibition at the British Library. Overall sales of Harry potter books were up by 50% in 2017 according to UK TCM figures.

New Details on Harry Potter – A History Of Magic Documentary
Posted by Megs

BBC has released some new information on their upcoming documentary, Harry Potter – A History Of Magic which will be airing on Saturday 28 October from 9.00pm-10.00pm on BBC TWO.

It’s 20 years since J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone first cast its spell on readers across the globe, thanks to the charm, warmth and imagination of its wizarding world. But Rowling’s fantastical creation wasn’t entirely make-believe…

To mark the 20th anniversary of her book, the BBC presents an enchanting new documentary, uncovering the real life traditions of magic at the heart of Harry Potter.

A thrilling journey through legends, belief and folklore, this film goes behind the scenes with the British Library as they search to tell that story through objects in their collection, in an ambitious new exhibition: Harry Potter: A History Of Magic.

J.K. Rowling, who is lending unseen manuscripts, drawings and drafts from her private archives (which will sit alongside treasures from the British Library, as well as original drafts and drawings from Jim Kay) talks about some of the personal items she has lent to the exhibition and gives new insight into her writing, looking at some of the objects from the exhibition that have fired her imagination.

Readings from famous fans playfully recreates some of the best-loved spells, potions and magical moments from the books, and, as we follow the process of the exhibition, we discover modern magic’s counterparts – from real life wandmakers to Quidditch enthusiasts.

Viewers will discover an unexpected relationship between magic, belief and science: from the Anglo-Saxon spells that cure MRSA to the so-called witches who pioneered contemporary medicine and the ancient stargazers who first mapped the wonders of the night sky.

Bloomsbury have announced today that Chris Riddell is set to work on the illustrated edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. The Tales of Beedle the Bard Illustrated Edition by J.K. Rowling, illustrated by Chris Riddell will be released on October 2 2018 for £25, £120 for the deluxe edition!

Bloomsbury Children’s Books today announce Chris Riddell as the artist who will create stunning images for an illustrated edition of J.K. Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard sold in aid of the author’s international children’s charity Lumos.

Publishing on 2nd October 2018, this classic from the Wizarding World will be gloriously reimagined in a large colour gift edition by the multi-award-winning Riddell. He will mix his signature, beautiful watercolour with line and tonal illustrations, capturing the spirit of J.K. Rowling’s ingenious text with his trademark wit and elegance.

Chris Riddell is a bestselling author/illustrator and former Waterstones Children’s Laureate. On being commissioned for this project Chris said, “To be invited into the world of Harry Potter is an immense honour and incredibly exciting. These fairy tales are vivid and beautifully crafted and will resonate in the sumptuous format Bloomsbury have given me. But the true joy has been to discover the richness and texture of Dumbledore’s footnotes. I can’t wait to pull on my robes and begin my tenure as a supply teacher at Hogwarts!”

Rebecca McNally, Children’s Publishing Director, said of Chris’s selection: “It takes extraordinary skill and imagination to illustrate J.K. Rowling’s highly inventive and original book, which has both wonderful, classic-feeling fairy tales and the inimitable, witty and subversive notes of Albus Dumbledore. There was only ever going to be one person for this job – it just had to be the once-in-a-lifetime talent of Chris Riddell.”

Chris Riddell is an award-winning illustrator and acclaimed political cartoonist. He is currently the only artist to have won the Kate Greenaway Medal three times, most recently for his illustrations in Neil Gaiman’s The Sleeper and the Spindle. Chris Riddell was Waterstones Children’s Laureate from 2015 to 2017 and has recently been announced as a Booktrust Ambassador. Chris has illustrated the work of many celebrated children’s authors, including five Neil Gaiman titles. He is the author of the bestselling Goth Girl and Ottoline series and co-creator of the much-loved The Edge Chronicles.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard was first published in 2008. An essential read for any Harry Potter fan, it contains five classic fairy tales, including ‘The Tale of the Three Brothers’, which plays a key role in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Translated from the original runes by Hermione Granger, the tales are introduced by J.K. Rowling. Also included are Professor Albus Dumbledore’s notes on each tale, which appear by kind permission of the Hogwarts Archives. The Tales of Beedle the Bard is published in aid of Lumos, J.K. Rowling’s international children’s charity, which works to improve the lives of disadvantaged children around the world.
