New Interview with Michael Goldenberg
Posted by Megs

Carnegie Mellon Today has a new interview up with Michael Goldenberg, where he discusses writing the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix script.

“You are translating from one language into a very different one,” he says. “The tools of a screenwriter are opposite to those of a novelist. In a novel, you have the luxury of digressing and exploring, and stopping to luxuriate in all the details. Screenwriting is first and foremost about compressiondistilling, picking the one detail, the one telling image, or the dialogue that encapsulates what might have taken many pages in the book. We’re looking at it from the other end of the telescope.”

new Articles on USA Today Site
Posted by Megs

The USA Today website has added 3 new articles that include Harry Potter. The first says “Harry Potter, paperbacks are top trends in 2007″. The second is for the Top 100 books of 2007, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the number 1 book!  The final article has a little paragraph about Deathly Hallows that goes as follows:

The weekend of July 21 marked the end of an era. That’s when the seventh and final Harry Potter book went on sale, pulling the other six books in the series high onto the list. Even the Harry Potter Schoolbooks (“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and “Quidditch Through the Ages”) made an appearance on the Top 150 list. Rowling is such a giant force that Potter books accounted for 8% of all sales tracked on the list in 2007. She is the year’s top-selling author, selling nearly three times as many books as No. 2 author James Patterson. Deathly Hallows is the No.1 book of 2007, selling nearly three times as many copies as its nearest competitor, No. 2 The Secret.

JKR to speak at Harvard
Posted by Megs

JK Rowling will speak at Harvard on June 5th for the Commencement ceremony.

The author of the mega-bestseller “Harry Potter” series will get a chance to make up for that in June, when she delivers the keynote address at Harvard’s Commencement exercises, the University announced Thursday morning.

“Perhaps no one in our time has done more than J. K. Rowling to inspire young people to experience the excitement and the sheer joy of reading,” said University President Drew G. Faust in the statement.

The University will also grant Rowling— a native of Great Britain whose net worth has been estimated at over $1 billion—an honorary degree at the June 5 ceremony.

Potter stars helping save the Bush
Posted by Megs

A number of Harry Potter cast members have stepped up to help the Bush Theatre from a grants cut. Daniel Radcliffe, Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters, Alan Rickman, Frances de la Tour, Gemma Jones, and Miriam Margoyles have all stepped up to help.

They are among more than 150 actors and directors publicly backing the tiny west London venue’s fight against Arts Council England’s proposal to reduce its funding by £180,000.

If the cut is implemented it would “seriously diminish” the Bush’s capacity to do its work and serve audiences, the supporters say.

Movie Magic Scans
Posted by Megs

Hey peeps!
I just spent the past 3 hours scanning all the Harry Potter pages of Movie Magic magazine (and resizing them), even though I am not allowed to show them all. I put a few of the pages in the GALLERY, so head over there to see them. There are 53 pages about Harry Potter in total, I put up a few of the beginning pages for some articles.

Also, if you have a website and want the pages featuring the actor/actress your site is about just email me and I will attach any pages they are in to the email for you. =)

The magazine will be on sale until March 17th 2008! So go out and buy it.
