David Heyman Producing ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’
Posted by Megs

It has been announced this morning that Harry Potter producer David Heyman will indeed be producing the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series!  He confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly at the premiere of his film, Gravity, yesterday evening.

[…] said that Rowling hasn’t turned in a finished script just yet, but that “Jo is at work” and tremendously excited about the project. “She’s not doing it for any other reason other than she loves the world and she had a story that she wanted to tell,” he said.

“It’s incredibly exciting,” he continued. “She doesn’t have to go back to this world, but something pulled her back. This is not Harry Potter. This is not Harry, Ron, and Hermione. This is a separate story within a universe related to the Potter universe.”

When asked about which creatures we might see in the film — you better believe I brought up quintapeds and lethifolds — Heyman demured. “We follow Newt on his adventures,” he said, grinning.

The producer said Rowling has no shortage of plot ideas for Fantastic Beasts because she knows Newt Scamander’s history so thoroughly — after all, she created him. “The fact that she’s going to this world means there are stories to tell,” he said. “When I was doing the Harry Potters, what was clear to me is that Jo’s knowledge of this world is infinite. What you read in the books was just the surface of her knowledge. She had notebook upon notebook of stuff. I would call her and say, ‘What’s the sixth use of dragon’s blood?’ and she’d have it at her fingertips.”

Rupert Grint to Voice Lead in English Version of the Animated film “Foosball”
Posted by Megs

Variety revealed last week that Rupert Grint would be lending his voice tot he main character of Foosball, an animated film just released in Spanish.  Details of the film are as follows:

Grint will play “Foosball’s” hero Amadeo, a shy table soccer genius whose table soccer figures come alive to help him save his local town and win his childhood sweetheart, both threatened by a preening soccer mega-star.

“Foosball” will first be seen on Oct. 19 at the London Film Festival.

“Usually, at least in the U.K., if you have a foreign film, you’d subtitle,” Glynn said. “But ‘Foosball’ has huge potential and is a family film, and kids want films in their own language,” he added. Glynn “hopes and is confident” that he will see a lot more business dubbing animated films into English.

“Foosball,” Campanella added, isn’t really about soccer. “I’m not into soccer. ‘Foosball’ is as much about soccer as ‘Casablanca’ is about war.  But soccer underscores other life passions, here, Amadeo’s need to grow up, to face challenges, or be wiped out.”

Emma Watson Featured in Net-a-Porter’s The Edit; Photoshoot
Posted by Megs

Emma Watson is featured in The Edit, online store Net-a-Porter’s online magazine.  She is shown wearing eco friendly dresses made by five designers for the Green Carpet Challenge. Victoria Beckham, Christopher Bailey, Erdem, Christopher Kane and Roland Mouret each created two dresses for the collection.  You can view the spread and full interview here and the dresses may be seen and purchased here.

Eco campaigner Livia Firth began the GCC in 2009 to catapult ethical fashion into the global spotlight. For Firth’s latest project, she asked five British-based designers to each create two event pieces exclusively for NET-A-PORTER. But who to showcase them? The two women had met previously at a party, so when Firth asked Watson to join the project, she jumped aboard. “I was like, ‘No one’s doing anything like this!’ It’s so exciting.”

Having grown up on the red carpet, Watson knows first-hand that sustainable style and glamorous gowns have never been totally simpatico. “I’ve always had this huge problem,” she says. “I would love to wear garments that are ethically sourced, but there aren’t enough options for me to be able to do that realistically.” So when she met Firth, “it just seemed like [the project] was something I had to do, something I’d been waiting for.” Her eyes light up: “Livia’s created a lobbying body to put pressure on governments and corporations to encourage them to have [ethical responsibility] as their baseline. It’s quite awesome.”

Emma also talked about why she is so into eco-friendly fashion (and other commodities):

It is an interest she has long held. As she grew up in Oxfordshire, England, her father would purposefully take her to farms so she understood the origins of the food on her plate. “Maybe there would be fewer problems if we were really conscious of where and how things were made,” Watson says passionately. “We don’t support slave labor in this country, so we shouldn’t support those conditions in other countries. I can’t wrap my head around why ethical clothing is a speciality and not a base standard. Why is it special to have something you know wasn’t made under terrible conditions by a 12-year-old girl for 20 pence an hour?” She pauses, looking slightly embarrassed. “It’s hard to talk about this stuff without sounding preachy.” But she doesn’t sound preachy; she sounds like a woman who’s figured out what she cares about most, and is taking a stand.

More Details on J.K. Rowling’s Involvement with ‘Fantastic Beasts’
Posted by Megs

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed some new information about how J.K. Rowling decided to screen-write the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films and what her involvement will be.  According to the article, Rowling said that without WB exec Kevin Tsujihara, the deal would not have happened.   The article also revealed that sources are saying talks are ongoing with David Heyman to produce the films.

The Rowling deal, more than a year in the making, calls for the author herself to write the screenplay for the first film in a series that will center on Newt Scamander, a Hogwarts alum and author of the go-to textbook Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them (which makes several appearances in the existing Potter canon). Tsujihara flew to the U.K. several times since the spring to meet with Rowling, who sparked to his demeanor.

“Kevin handled himself really well,” says Ken Kleinberg, Rowling’s L.A.-based attorney, who negotiated the deal with her U.K. agent, Neil Blair. “He was a great listener, and he conveyed sincerity and concern.” Tsujihara’s wooing of the demanding author took some studio insiders by surprise. Many didn’t think celebrity schmoozing was part of his skill set.

[…] Robinov, who is negotiating his exit from the studio, played a key early role in smoothing out a rights issue (Warners had movie rights to characters from the Potter universe but not Newt Scamander).

For Rowling, the most important issue was creative control‚ not an easy ask for a first-time screenwriter. Sources say Warners cannot hire someone else to rewrite her script without her approval — a gamble for the studio and a departure from the Potter films, which were written by such seasoned scribes as Steve Kloves and Michael Goldenberg. Rowling also has script approval on subsequent Fantastic Beasts films.
