JKR gets James Joyce award, reads from DH, Q&A
Posted by Megs

J.K. Rowling attended the Literary and Historical Society at University College Dublin earlier today to receive the James Joyce award. At the event JKR read from Deathly Hallows and answered questions.

You can read the Q&A at this report (scroll down for the English version) . Here are some examples:

  • Jo confirms that Snape and Dumbledore’s history were established before the Philosopher Stone was published, but states that she doesn’t think about the movie when she writes (even thought she had a thought for the producers after having written the battle of Hogwarts, realising how much it would cost.
  • If Jo was to meet a character, she would definitely pick up Dumbledore (even if she had been tempted by a hug from Hagrid).
  • As for the opposition of the Pope to Harry Potter, she confesses that she doesn’t follow the issue. Basically, she is definitely opposed to censorship and sees Harry Potter more as a moral book than a proselyte one.

Thanks HPANA!

Translation of JKR Interview
Posted by Megs

Thanks to SnitchSeeker we have a translated version of the JKR Interview. She talks about a myriad of things so its a good read.

Q: And if you had a magic wand, what would you do?

A: I want a Democrat in the White House. And it seems a shame to me that Clinton and Obama are rivals because they are both extraordinary people.

Q: Your books appear to be full of personal details.

A: I tend to use significant dates. When I need a date or a number, I use something related to my personal life. I don’t know why I do it, it’s a tic. Harry’s birthday is the same date as mine, for example. The numbers that appear or dates that are in the books are related to my life.

New JKR Interview

There is a new article preview online at the XLSemanal. The full article will come out later.  It is in Spanish so if anyone speaks spanish and would like to translate it all for me that would be great! Here is a segment of it from Mugglenet.

My model of the world after Voldemort’s return was, directly, the government of Neville Chamberlain in Great Britain during the Second World War, when he tried to minimize the menace of the Nazi regime for political convenience.

JKR 'Morgan Stanley Great Briton of 2007'
Posted by Megs

JK Rowling was named the Morgan Stanley Overall Great Briton of 2007.

A publishing phenomenon, JK Rowling has changed reading habits and patterns worldwide. The success of the Harry Potter books – the final novel in the series sold 11 million copies in its first 24 hours – has united a generation of children and parents in a genuine love of reading.

The Judges felt Miss Rowling had transformed the world’s view of Britain and that her books are “brilliantly British.” That she also managed to top the best-seller list in France with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the first English-language author to do so, is a further testament to her global appeal.

Rowling has left an indelible mark on the nation’s literary history, which is why the judges insisted that she should receive double honours, winning the arts category and be named the Morgan Stanley Overall Great Briton of 2007.
