JKR Wins Lexicon Case!
Posted by Megs

Today a judge ruled in favor of JK Rowling and WB in her case against RDR Books.  U.S. district court judge Robert Patterson said that Rowling proved the publication of Steve Vander Ark’s unofficial Potter companion book, based off his web site of the same name, would case irreparable harm to the author. He also said that RDR Books had “failed to establish an affirmative defense of fair use.”

So now The Harry Potter Lexicon book must halt publication. Here is the full decision (it is a pdf file).

Thanks HPANA!

JKR on Forbes European Billionaire Women list
Posted by Megs

JK Rowling has made the top European Billionaire Women list by Forbes. She came last with an estimated net worth of $1 billion.

Joanne (J.K.) Rowling
Citizenship: U.K.
Net worth: $1 billion
Once a single mother living on welfare in a cold-water flat in Edinburgh, Scotland, Rowling is now the only billionaire author on our list. The seventh and last installment of her wildly successful Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released July 2007 to throngs of rabid fans, who made it the fastest-selling book of all time. Over 11 million copies were sold in the first 24 hours. Feeding the Potter-mania: The film version of the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, came out the same month. The popularity of her boy wizard has put the author in the spotlight, with a Rowling documentary airing last year. In November, a New York judge ordered publisher RDR Books to halt publication of a Potter dictionary after Rowling brought a lawsuit against the company.

JKR Writes Forward in Anelli's book
Posted by Megs

Melissa Anelli. from The Leaky Cauldron has written a new book called A History: The True Story of a Boy Wizard, His Fans, and Life Inside the Harry Potter Phenomenon. JK Rowling has written the forward for this book! The book comes out on November 4th and you can pre-order it HERE!  Here is a small excerpt from it:

Not until sometime in 2002 did I finally crack, and do the thing that people assumed I did daily. I Googled Harry Potter.
I knew, of course, that there were fan sites out there. My postbag was full of mentions of them, my readers assuming that I was au fait with what was happening online. My PA, Fiddy, had had contact with a few of the webmasters. But I was still utterly unprepared what I found during that first, mammoth trawling session.
The fan sites were so professional-looking; easily up to the standard of any of my publishers’ sites. And they had tens of thousands of visitors. They had forums, message boards, editorials, rolling news, fan art, fan fiction, quotes of the day from my books… and the shipping wars… my God, the shipping wars…
