Harry Potter Series to be Honored at BAFTA Awards
Posted by Megs

The Harry Potter series will be receiving the award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema at this year’s Orange British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). JK Rowling and David Heyman will receive the award on behalf of the franchise during the ceremony at London’s Royal Opera House on Sunday 13 February 2011.

Finola Dwyer, Chair of the Film Committee commented, “As this great British film success story draws to a close with this year’s eagerly anticipated final instalment, it’s fitting that BAFTA honours the Harry Potter films and their contribution to the British film industry. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate with JK Rowling and David Heyman at the Film Awards.”

Producer David Heyman said, “On behalf of the over 2000 people who worked in front of and behind the camera on each of the Harry Potter films I would like to say how honoured we all are to receive this Award. And thank you to Jo Rowling for entrusting us to bring her magnificent books to the screen.”

Daniel Radcliffe who plays the eponymous hero remarked, “I am thrilled that the Harry Potter film series is being honoured with this Award. I have loved every minute of making these films and to me the real heroes are the crew and the huge team of craftsmen that have made all eight of them possible – this Award is a testament to their incredible work.”

Emma Watson who plays Hermione Granger said, “This is a huge honour! I am so proud to have been part of the incredible team both in front and behind the camera that made these films. Thank you to Jo Rowling for writing such wonderful books, to David Heyman for shepherding us all through the past ten years and to all the loyal fans who have been with us throughout”

Rupert Grint who plays Ron Weasley added, “Thank you so much BAFTA for this amazing Award. We have spent half our lives making these films and are so proud of the pleasure they have given the fans and the contribution they have made to British cinema.”

Review: Scene It? Harry Potter App
Posted by Megs

Today I was able to review the brand new Scene It? Harry Potter app which was released in iTunes today!

Screenlife and Warner Brothers Interactive invite you to test your wizarding wits with Scene It? Harry Potter on the iPhone and iPad. This app is overflowing with movie clips, trivia questions and on-screen puzzles.

Brush up on your Harry Potter trivia and experience a spellbinding voyage that lets you relive your favorite moments from the first six films. Before you can say, “Expecto Patronum,” the magic, fun and excitement of this legendary saga will captivate you and everyone who plays. Scene It? Harry Potter is the ultimate companion app for aspiring wizards.

Scene It? Harry Potter features include:
•       30 distinct quiz sets with 16 puzzle types that provide hours of challenging trivia, puzzles and mini-games
•       Dozens of video clips, images and audio clips pulled directly from the Harry Potter films
•       An engaging, fast-paced single-player mode
•       Head to Head Multiplayer via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth (uses multiple devices)
•       Table Play Multiplayer (uses a single device)

Luckily my brother has an iPod touch so I was able to play the game, and it does not disappoint.  I think in some ways this is better than the DVD version of Scene It? Harry Potter because you can play it alone by doing challenges. When you finish challenges as a single player you can Tweet or share your results on Facebook (or do nothing).    You can also do a Pass and Play version where you pass around the device and need to beat the timer or you are eliminated.  Finally you can play with other people who have the app by using wifi or bluetooth in the Multiplayer version. The only little problem I had was on the unscrambling letters games it was hard to drag the letter to the right spot, but that is probably because I’m not used to using an iPod Touch all the time. All in all I give the game an A+! And at only $1.99 the game is a total steal!

Some screencaps from the game can be seen below:

I was invited to attend the preview of Harry Potter: The Exhibition that was held today, but was sadly unable to attend since I’m on the other side of the country.  Luckily reports are now appearing online from various sources.  ABC has the best report so far, but I’m sure some other fan sites will have reports and photos up soon.  KomoNews has also posted some photos, some may be seen below.

The Exhibition opens on the 23rd and more information may be found here: http://www.pacsci.org/harrypotter/
