Video: A Young Doctor’s Notebook Trailer Featuring Daniel Radcliffe
Posted by Megs

A trailer for Daniel Radcliffe’s upcoming miniseries, A Young Doctor’s Notebook, has appeared online and may be watched below (or for better quality visit Sky’s website).  The show, which is 4 parts, will premiere on December 6th on Sky in the UK.

“Based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s collection of short stories, A Country Doctor’s Notebook, the series follows a recently-graduated young medic (Radcliffe) who is forced to say farewell to life in bustling Moscow to take up a post as a doctor in a small, remote hospital a thousand miles from the capital, and half a day’s journey from the nearest shop.

“Hamm plays the young doctor 17 years on, who finds his old diary while answering to the authorities about self-prescribing morphine. He has a series of comic exchanges with his young and inexperienced self, mocking him for his youthful looks and guiding him through his early difficulties on the job.

“Fresh from achieving exceptional grades at the Imperial Moscow University, the naïve and freshfaced young doctor soon discovers he has a tough act to follow. Portraits and busts of his predecessor, the wizened Leopold Leopoldovich, fill the surgery’s rooms and he is spoken of with great reverence by midwives Anna and Pelageya and the feldsher (Adam Godley). They show little faith in the new doctor who they barely believe is old enough to be qualified, whose surgery robes drag on the floor and who they remind to brush his teeth before bed.

“The nervous doctor quickly finds himself out of his depth, sneaking off to examine text books during a tricky birthing and creating a gruesomely bloody scene when he is required to extract a rotten tooth.”

The Province Interviews Dan Radcliffe From Set of ‘Horns’
Posted by Megs

The Province interviewed Daniel Radcliffe from the set of his new film, Horns, in Canada. Some snippets from the article may be read below the full article can be read here.

“Prosthetics are amazing these days, this [his horns] is like a transfer tattoo — they just peel the backing off and it sticks,” the 23-year-old actor said. There’s a bit of touching up involved as well. Radcliffe is in the make-up chair for 45 minutes each day as the effect is created, and up close it looks uncanny, the goat-like horns seeming to rip through the skin of his forehead. In Horns, from the hit novel by Joe Hill, Radcliffe stars as Ig Perrish, a guy who wakes up with a pair of mysterious horns to find that he’s the prime suspect in his girlfriend’s death. “It’s a metamorphosis story, but the thing that excited me was that tonally it wasn’t like anything I had read,” he says. “It was both incredibly dark — like really dark and violent, and full of classic horror stuff — but also it has a very dry sense of humour.”

[…]“The nature of the horns means that any time I meet somebody, they end up telling me their deepest, darkest revelations. So even a small scene like this becomes incredibly intense.”

As to that American accent, “there are certain words — murderer is a hard word to say because there’s so many f—ing Rs in it, and girlfriend. Now, unfortunately those are two of the words I use most in this movie.”

[…]

“It’s a really cool time for me,” Radcliffe says. “I’m getting to a point where I can step back and appreciate how great this year has been.” Finished and awaiting release are the feature Kill Your Darlings, with Radcliffe as the young poet Allen Ginsberg, and the just-finished comic romance The F Word, filmed in Toronto with Canadian director Mike Dowse (Goon).

Radcliffe also filmed a role in the British TV mini-series A Young Doctor’s Notebook, starring alongside Mad Men’s Jon Hamm. “They’re all really different, they’re all interesting and weird, or have something weird about them,” Radcliffe says. “I feel like the best work I have done yet in my career, I have done this year.”
