Bill Nighy Talks Deathly Hallows
Posted by Megs

The Daily Record has a new interview with Bill Nighy who will be playing Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in Deathly Hallows!  In the interview he talks about one scene I know everyone is looking forward to seeing!

One part Bill won’t mind being scared about is Rufus Scrimgeour, the Minister for Magic in the final two Harry Potter movies – Deathly Hallows Part 1 and II.  He is currently filming the second, in which his character becomes a father figure to Harry, Hermione and Ron after the death of Dumbledore. Part 1 will be released in November next year with the final Potter film, due out in July 2011.

“Scrimgeour is a tragic figure,” said Bill. “He knows what’s coming. It’s a very moving thing to play. He’s also very powerful and has had a very complicated progress to the top. And he has an interesting relationship with Harry, who views him initially with contempt. But then it’s softened by subsequent events. There’s a scene where he delivers Dumbledore’s legacy to the three children. He gives them all the things Dumbledore has left them, and that’s when it’s indicated he may not be around for much longer.”

Thanks SS!

In a new interview with Bill Nighy, Rufus Scrimgeour,  he discussed the security measures to protect the movie script and more.

“They kill you, if you leave your script lying around or leave it on the bus, you’re dead,” he said, laughing.  “You have to sign a confidentiality (agreement) and stuff like that which is perfectly understandable. So if I tell you any more, they’ll come round my house.”

“It was very sweet, very nice to work with him, and with Emma and Rupert, and with David Yates as this is my fourth time working with him,” he added at the Los Angeles premiere of his latest film, Astro Boy.  “It’s great. I thought I was going to be the only British actor of a certain age not to be in Harry Potter and it turned out not to be true so it’s kind of cool.”

Bill Nighy to Film DH Next Week
Posted by Megs

In a promotional interview with BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat, Bill Nighy confirmed that he will start filming Deathly Hallows next week, Bill will be playing Rufus Scrimgeour.

You’ve also finally got yourself in a Harry Potter film…

Yes I did. I was beginning to worry. I was beginning to feel a tiny bit excluded.  I think they ran out of English actors. I was the only English actor of a certain age who wasn’t in Harry Potter and now I’m in Harry Potter so I’m very happy.  I start filming next week and I’ve been in for costume fittings and things. I can’t tell you too much about it because they do literally, I think they kill me or take my house or something if I tell you anything too much. And for good reasons, so that it all comes as a bit of a surprise.

I grew up with nearly everybody in the movies, I know all of the people in there, obviously because they’re part of the English acting community and it’s nice to be a part of it.

Thanks MN!

Bill Nighy Interview

Scifiwire has a new interview with Bill Nighy who will be playing Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

“I go home and I shoot, and I am Rufus Scrimgeour. I am a wizard. I am the Minister for Magic, and I am very pleased, because I thought I was going to remain the only English actor who wasn’t in Harry Potter, but apparently that’s not true.”

“Scrimgeour is a rather tragic figure, without giving too much away,” Nighy said. “But there’s no giving too much away, because everybody’s read the books. So he’s a kind of tragic figure. You have that element. And he knows what’s coming. So that’s a very moving thing to play. He’s also very powerful, and he’s had a very complicated progress to the top. And he has an interesting relationship with Harry [Daniel Radcliffe], because Harry views him initially with complete contempt, but then it’s softened by subsequent events.”

Well, there’s one where he comes and delivers Dumbledore’s [Michael Gambon] legacy to the three children,” Nighy replied, referring to Harry, Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint, with whom Nighy worked on the upcoming action-comedy Wild Target). “He gives them all of the things that Dumbledore has left them, and that’s when it’s first indicated that he may not be around for much longer. So it’s quite an affecting scene.”
