Voldemort: Charming – But Deadly
Posted by Megs

Entertainment Weekly has another new list today: 17 Characters Who Are Charming — But Deadly. Voldemort, of course, is on the list!

VOLDEMORT/TOM RIDDLE
Played by Ralph Fiennes
The Harry Potter films (2001-present)

Known as the Dark Lord to those who dare not speak his name, this corrupted wizard represents ultimate evil in the world of J.K. Rowling’s magical books. And as played by the regal Ralph Fiennes — with childhood assists from young actors like Christian Clouson, Frank Dillane, and Fiennes’ own nephew, Hero Fiennes-Tiffin — it’s easy to see how Voldemort could seduce anyone to the dark side.

Ralph Talks Voldy
Posted by Megs

There is a new interview online with Ralph Fiennes who plays Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films.

“I hesitated for a bit before committing to the role because it sort of requires you to personify evil, and I don’t know how you do that,” Fiennes says. “I latched onto what was maybe crude psychology in working out Voldemort’s obsession with Harry. Harry was loved by his parents, which Voldemort can’t stand. He is, of course, a rejected person. It’s quite basic: the rejected child who’s emotionally been denied affection turns violent. You have to suggest there’s more there, a life, a spirit, a mind. It isn’t just a creepy voice and makeup. I always think you can find more in something. It’s good to just keep asking questions until someone says cut.”

MTV spoke to a bunch of different celebrities about what Harry Potter means to them to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Sorcerer’s Stone!

Keira Knightley: “I’ve read all the books. I haven’t seen the films, except the first one. What’s the alley where they get the wands from? [Diagon Alley.] That’s an amazing image. Harry, he’s pretty cool. He’s got a good scar.”

new ralph fiennes interview
Posted by Megs

EW has a new interview with Ralph Fiennes. Here is the segment where he discusses Voldemort:

“That’s actually the hardest to do because you have to personify evil, and there’s such a history of cliches and villains and monsters. You’ve got to struggle not to play all the obvious notes. And with such extreme makeup, such an extreme look, that’s the challenge. Also, the style of the movies is so strong. The movie itself is its own machine, and you’ve got to fulfill a function of a bigger machine. It would be good to keep the sense of some kind of real psychology going on, even in all the special effects and everything.” That is, assuming that Fiennes reprises his role as Lord Voldie for the final movies, which he has every intention of doing. I’m not officially contracted to the last ones, but I think that’s in the cards. I want to do it. It’s just that they haven’t got a script yet, so the deal side of it isn’t in place. But the indications are that it’ll happen. Watch for the Dark Mark in the sky.
