Posted by Megs

Thanks to Hypable we have some very exciting news on Pottermore today! Charlie Redmayne, CEO of Pottermore, spoke at the London Book Fair’s Digital Minds Conference on April 15th and discussed the newly public website. Some highlights from the chat are as follows (thanks Hypable):

  • New books in line over the next few weeks and months. [this could mean two things: they will start working on them OR they will be released for public viewing]
  • A lot more functionalities – like wizard dueling – are to come
  • Over the next few weeks they will be switching their focus from platform issues to content issues, in which the site is going to get ‘incredibly exciting’ and his job will become ‘much more exciting.’ He also commented that the site will get ‘better and better and better’
  • Over the coming weeks you will see more of J.K. Rowling’s content and books ‘fly by’
  • New interactives and community functionalities will be added in the coming weeks as well.
  • Could be seeing ‘enhanced’ ebooks coming down the line in the next year.

Pottermore Opening to Public!
Posted by Megs

Pottermore announced yesterday that they are officially opening to the public! Are you a member yet? IF so, what house were you sorted into?  I’m a Ravenclaw!

Over the coming days, we’ll be inviting new users onto Pottermore.com. We’re expecting to be really busy to start with and plan to activate new registrations in a steady stream. This means that you may not get access to Pottermore immediately after you sign up but we will get you exploring the site as quickly possible.

After you’ve signed up, you’ll get sorted into one of the four Hogwarts houses, have a wand choose you, and discover exclusive new writing from J.K. Rowling.

We’ll be adding lots of exciting new features over the coming weeks and months, so make sure you return regularly to explore and discover all the changes as Pottermore grows.

Pottermore Opening April 2012
Posted by Megs

It’s official! The Pottermore Insider blog has revealed that the highly anticipated website will be opening to the public in April!

We know that the extended wait for those wishing to be part of Pottermore has been frustrating, and we’d like to thank you all for your patience so far. Many of you are interested to know why we extended the original opening date beyond October of last year.

We always knew Pottermore would be incredibly popular, which is why we made the decision to only open to one million Beta users to begin with. We wanted to make sure that we had a really good understanding of how people want to use the site and which bits we’d need to modify before giving more people access.

We gathered some incredibly useful feedback from our Beta users, and it became clear that our original platform wouldn’t be suitable when millions more users came on to the site. So we made a big decision: to move Pottermore to an entirely different platform set up. This ‘invisible’ change has involved a lot of work behind the scenes but it will enable our users to get the best from Pottermore as it grows and develops.

There have definitely been some challenges and the whole Pottermore team has been working really hard to incorporate all the Beta activity and feedback. This means that over the coming weeks and months we’ll be adding exclusive content and many more exciting features (such as sounds) to Pottermore for you to explore, share and discover.

So get ready to join the Pottermore journey – the wait is nearly over.

Pottermore Insider Blog Answers More Questions
Posted by Megs

The Pottermore Insider blog has been updated letting fans know that the site is back online after a 3-day maintenance period. The update is as follows:

Following the scheduled three-day maintenance window, Pottermore is now back online.

The updates we’ve made over the past few days have mainly involved replacing hardware, so while you won’t see any obvious changes on the site itself, there has been a lot of work undertaken to help make the site run more smoothly.

You can help us test these behind-the-scenes improvements by logging in and using the site as you normally would: interacting with Moments, adding comments, brewing potions, etc. We’ll be monitoring Pottermore closely over the next few days to see how the site performs.

Also, if you are a Pottermore Beta user and have not yet completed the Beta survey, you have until Monday 7 November before we close it. You only need to complete the survey once, and it can be found here.

Pottermore Beta Testing Extended
Posted by Megs

The Pottermore Insider Blog has been updated to let fans know that Beta testing has been extended and that the site will have some down time starting on November 2nd.

After looking closely at all the information that we’ve gathered, we have decided to further extend the Beta period so we can improve Pottermore before giving more people access. This means the site will not be opening to new users in the immediate future, but please know that we will open registration as soon as we can.

As part of our work to make Pottermore even better, we’ll be taking the site down for a few days on Wednesday 2 November. We’re going to use this time to make a few technical changes behind-the-scenes.

[…]

So Pottermore will not be opening to new users just yet. For all of you who are waiting to enter Pottermore, we want to thank you for being so patient – we’re working very hard to make some exciting improvements, and we’re really looking forward to welcoming you to the site when it’s ready.
