Today we have a new photo and information about JK Rowling’s appearance on Oprah, which will be shown on Friday, October 1st. In the following quote, she talks about the U.S. book tour for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and the enormous pressure she felt.
There was this enormous Barnes & Noble, and I thought, oh my God. And the queue snaked up the street, up the Barnes & Noble, up through four floors and they took me in the back entrance. They opened the door and they screamed. They screamed….That’s a real stand-out moment for me. I knew it was getting big in that there was press attention and so on, but at that point, that for me…was when it felt ‘Beatle-esque.
You ask about the pressure. At that point, I kept saying to people, yeah I’m coping…but the truth was there were times when I was barely hanging on by a thread.

Thanks SS!

Express.co.uk has posted some quotes from JK Rowling’s interview with Oprah, you may read them below. Oprah’s official site for her show has posted some photos from the interview.
The notoriously shy writer, now worth an estimated £519million, gave an emotional account of her battle with demons as she struggled to cope with being a single mother and an aspiring novelist before finding fame. Oprah flew to Scotland to meet Rowling, 45, in an Edinburgh hotel. She asked her about her regrets in life, her critics and her husband Dr Neil Murray, who is described as the “love of her life”.
In the candid hour-long interview to be shown across America on Friday, she also discovers why Rowling once turned down an offer from pop star Michael Jackson. A trailer on chat show queen Oprah’s website says “the first self-made billionaire author in history” opens up about “depression, her biggest regrets, and the love of her life”.
She rarely gives interviews, but two years ago told a student newspaper the end of her first marriage to Jorge Arantes left her suicidal. Confessing she went to her GP with serious depression, she said: “We’re talking suicidal thoughts here, we’re not talking about, ‘I’m a little bit miserable’.” She said she probably ended counselling sessions too early, adding “I went through a really rough time and I am quite proud that I got out of that.”

According to Scotland on Sunday, some handwritten pages that were originally written for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets will be on display during the Wigtown Book Festival. The festival, which starts tomorrow, will be continuing until October 2nd. The pages will be housed at ReadingLasses bookshop in Wigtown. More information on the festival may be found here.
The original, signed manuscripts, originally written as part of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, will be on show during the Wigtown Book Festival, which starts tomorrow. The Ballard of Nearly Headless Nick – a ghost who haunts Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry – was eventually edited out of the second book in the series before publication.
But fans of the stories, which Rowling started writing as a single mother living in Edinburgh, will be able to read the framed pages displayed at ReadingLasses bookshop in Wigtown. The shop, owned by Gerrie and Susan Douglas-Scott, and Bex Woodsford, focuses on books written by and about women. “We’re very exciting that this bit of Harry Potter is coming home to Scotland for ten days,” Gerrie Douglas-Scott said.
The manuscripts were originally donated by Rowling to the Scottish Language Dictionaries in 2005 to help fund a new Scottish language dictionary. They are now in the hands of Ilyas Khan, a book collector and publisher of Asia Literary Review. The manuscripts have not previously been displayed in public. The exhibition was said to be a one-off and the pages will not be going on a world tour.
