Donate to JK Rowling’s Birthday Fundraiser & Enter To Win Great Prizes
Posted by Megs

Harry Potter fan Becca is raising money for LUMOS as a gift to Potter author J.K. Rowling for her birthday.  If giving Jo a great birthday present isn’t enough to make you want to donate, this might help: All donations will be entered to win one of many great prizes, including signed photos by actors, and even a signed copy of  The Casual Vacancy! If you would like to be entered into the prize draw please have a read of the FAQs/Ts&Cs before donating as they contain important info.

Some more information on the fundraiser may be read below:

What is Light Up Jo’s Birthday?

JK Rowling’s 48th birthday is on the 31st July 2013. Every year, fans come together to create projects for Jo’s birthday- books, videos and websites filled with messages of love for the woman who changed the lives of millions around the world. But actions speak louder than words, so what better way to express our love for Jo than by helping a cause close to her heart?

Last year, in Light Up Jo’s Birthday’s first year, we raised over £1,000 for Lumos. Jo said it was one of the best birthday presents she had ever received. So what are we going to do this year? We’re going to do it bigger and better!

Who are Lumos?

Lumos is a charity founded by JK Rowling which aims to end the institutionalisation of children around the world. To find out more, hover over Lumos’s logo to the left. Last year the money raised by Light Up Jo’s Birthday went towards making a school accessible, so that disabled children can attend mainstream school and stay with their families instead of having to go into an institution.

If everyone who reads this donated just £1, which is less than the cost of sending Jo a birthday card, we could make a real difference to many children’s lives again.

Happy Birthday J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter
Posted by Megs

Today marks the birthday of our favorite literary hero and his creator; Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling!  Happy Birthday to two of the most important people of my childhood, and I’m sure many of yours as well.  Jo is celebrating her 47th birthday while Harry turns the ripe age of 32.

Harry has led a pretty normal life since his defeat of the Dark Lord in 1998.  He married Ginny Weasley and had 3 children: Albus Severus, James Sirius and Lily Luna.  He currently works as an Auror for the Ministry of Magic.

J.K. Rowling, on the other hand, has had many changes in her life since she wrote the first Potter book. She has become a household name and an author loved by millions of children.  Jo has a wonderful husband and three children of her own. She also has a new book, The Casual Vacancy, releasing in September.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JO AND HARRY!!!!

Alan Rickman Talks Harry Potter
Posted by Megs

In an interview with The New York Post, Severus Snape actor Alan Rickman talked about the Harry Potter series, playing the role of Snape, theatre and more. The parts where he discussed Harry Potter may be read below:

Did [Harry Potter author] J.K. Rowling know ahead of time what would happen with your character, Snape?
Yeah, she knew everything. It’s fair to say that she put the ending into a safe. She knew how it would finish.

Did she tip you off?
Before I said I would do [the first film] I said I had to talk to her. We spoke the next day, and she gave me a very small piece of information … that let me know there was more to him than met the eye.

Can you share that with us?
No. I promised her I never would.

Having played the character all those years, did you have emotional or cathartic moments toward the end?
With the last film, it was very cathartic, because you were finally able to see who he was. It was strange, in a way, to play stuff that was so emotional … but satisfying on all sorts of levels. You know, Ray [Fiennes, who played Voldemort] and I had a scene where you just thought, well, finally it’s just a couple of actors talking to each other, with no special effects.

On holding a wand.
Holding a wand is not the most threatening thing. And pointing it at Dame Maggie Smith, who you’ve grown up worshipping from the cheap seats at the National Theatre, and she’s pointing it at you … and she can arch an eyebrow like nobody. Thank god for the sheets of flame.

Did he ever consider not acting in all eight of the movies?
No, I wasn’t going to let anyone else finish him.

Today is also Snape’s birthday, so Happy Birthday to our favorite Potions Master!
