FINALLY we have confirmation that Deathly Hallows will be made into 2 films and David Yates will direct both!
Warner Bros. and the producers of the massively successful movies will announce Thursday that they plan to split “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” J.K. Rowling’s seventh and final “Potter” novel, into two blockbuster films — one to be released in November 2010 and the second in May 2011. The films will be titled, simply, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II,” according to producer David Heyman. Director David Yates, who returned for his second tour of Potter duty with “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and is quite popular with the cast, will direct both “Deathly Hallows” films, which will be filmed concurrently. Screenwriter Steve Kloves also returns and, by completion of the franchise, will have written seven of the eight films. Heyman said he approached Rowling with some trepidation about the strategy but found that she signed off on its logic rather quickly. “I went to Jo and she was cool with it,” Heyman said, “and that was quite a relief.”

Empire has a new interview online that they had with David Yates during the Empire Awards last night.
“We’re talking about it [who will direct Deathly Hallows] everyday,” said the director, who helmed Order of the Phoenix and is currently working on Half-Blood Prince. “But I can’t really say right now. I’m tempted, certainly”.

There is a new report online today giving us reason to believe that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix / Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince director David Yates will finish the series up by directing Deathly Hallows!
Bad news from The Giver Movie front. David Yates, the director currently working on the next Harry Potter film, was supposed to begin The Giver film next. But he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years.
Hopefully this is true because Order of the Phoenix was the best of the movies in my opinion (but Prisoner of Azkaban is close behind it) so it would be great if he directed again.
WB has NOT confirmed this, so we will treat it as a rumour until they do.
Thanks Leaky!

MTV has a new interview with David Yates and Daniel Radcliffe.
“That’s a scene [where Harry doesn’t go to the end of term feast] that was cut a bit before you got to that bit,” star Daniel Radcliffe said. “You see a bit, and if we had just continued the shot, that’s what would have happened. It’s a sweet moment between Harry and Ron, but Rupert [Grint] and I shot that really early on, and we were maybe not quite into our characters at that time. It is a sweet scene though.”What you won’t find in the DVD’s deleted scenes, however, is a shot that fans thought would have made the film because it explained Snape’s behavior throughout the whole series, a scene referred to as Snape’s worst memory, in which he calls a teenage Lily, Harry’s mom-to-be, a Mudblood. Some of that was in the film, but it stopped short of showing Lily, who turned out to be the love of Snape’s life. “We had a lovely actress play Lily,” Yates said. “And we may bring her back. But by introducing Lily and the Lily/Snape plot, that back story, we complicated it too much. We had to cut it.”

In an article in The Daily Mail David Yates, the director of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is quoted as saying he has cast the role of young Tom Riddle. He does not say who it will be but the writer thinks that Titan Tiffin, Ralph Fiennes nephew, has been cast.:
Titan Tiffin is to be cast as Tom Riddle the boy who becomes arch villain Lord Voldemort, who is played by Ralph.
‘I’ve found a really interesting kid to play Riddle. I can’t tell you who it is yet it’s early days.’
