Video: Jonny Duddle Shows How He Created the New Harry Potter Covers
Posted by Megs

In a new video from The Telegraph, illustrator Jonny Duddle shows how he goes about creating his illustrations for book covers, using Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince as an example. That video, as well as a snippet from the interview, may be viewed below:

“All I can really do, as an artist, is draw my vision of that scene,” Duddle says. His covers were shaped by feedback from Braithwaite, Rowling’s agent Neil Blair and Rowling herself. For each rough he submitted, Duddle would have a number of revisions suggested. He says he could never be sure which of them came from Rowling herself.

Duddle’s covers have been launched sequentially online, where Potter’s enormous fan base is active and vocal. He knows when Bloomsbury have released a new cover because his usually quiet Twitter account is suddenly inundated as the fans give 140-character verdicts.

The biggest complaint he receives, he says, is that Harry looks too young, especially on the cover for the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. “He’s only meant to be 17, and he’s always described as being quite slight. Ron is meant to be tall and skinny. The problem is in the film Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint are grown men by that point, and they’ve been working out.”

Take a Selfie with a Giant 3D Harry Potter Image at King’s Cross
Posted by Megs

On Saturday 30th August Bloomsbury Publishing will be celebrating the new children’s editions of the bestselling Harry Potter books with a giant 3D jacket of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone that people can ‘step’ in to and take their Harry Potter Book Selfie. This event has been coordinated alongside Platform 9 and three quarters, the shop that sells all things Harry Potter.

The giant jacket will be on the main concourse of London Kings Cross station from 07:00am through to 19:00pm on Saturday 30th August and is free for people to come along and take part. This is a great chance for anyone who has ever wanted to be on a Harry Potter jacket and be seen alongside Harry himself as well as Hagrid.

The collection of new books will be released separately (in paperback and hardcover) on September 1st, with the boxed sets being released on October 9th. You can order the books via the following links:

New Bloomsbury Harry Potter Website Launched Today
Posted by Megs

Bloomsbury Publishing has today relaunched its Harry Potter website to support the new children’s editions which will be published on Monday 1st September. You can see the site at http://harrypotter.bloomsbury.com/uk/. According to a press release we received this morning:

The design, functionality and priorities of the site have been completely revamped to increase its child appeal. The new Harry Potter site uses the Jonny Duddle artwork from the new children’s editions and includes pages of information on the bestselling series as well as exciting new content from Magical Downloads to a Harry Potter Quote Generator. The site now features a dedicated area for teachers which hosts discussion guides and reward certificates for the first time in the UK.

Bloomsbury has ongoing plans to grow and develop the website by adding new games and content over the coming months, and ensure it is the living, breathing home of Harry Potter books from Bloomsbury.

The website also includes a page for the new Illustrated Editions that we reported on back in 2012. Philosopher’s Stone will be released October 2015 with full illustrations by Jim Kay.

Bloomsbury Releases Jonny Duddle’s Back Covers
Posted by Megs

Bloomsbury has released the new back cover images from Jonny Duddle’s new interpretation of the books on their Facebook thismorning! View all seven images in our gallery.

MuggleNet, who exclusively released the photos earlier in the morning, also posted an exclusive interview with the artist that you can read here! One thing to note is that Jonny had not previously read the books before learning he could potentially illustrate the covers. He, along with a few other illustrators, submitted a cover for Philosopher’s Stone and Jonny was selected.  He also made sure to not watch the movies before finishing the covers so as to not be influenced by actors or landscapes.
