JKR gets James Joyce award, reads from DH, Q&A
Posted by Megs

J.K. Rowling attended the Literary and Historical Society at University College Dublin earlier today to receive the James Joyce award. At the event JKR read from Deathly Hallows and answered questions.

You can read the Q&A at this report (scroll down for the English version) . Here are some examples:

  • Jo confirms that Snape and Dumbledore’s history were established before the Philosopher Stone was published, but states that she doesn’t think about the movie when she writes (even thought she had a thought for the producers after having written the battle of Hogwarts, realising how much it would cost.
  • If Jo was to meet a character, she would definitely pick up Dumbledore (even if she had been tempted by a hug from Hagrid).
  • As for the opposition of the Pope to Harry Potter, she confesses that she doesn’t follow the issue. Basically, she is definitely opposed to censorship and sees Harry Potter more as a moral book than a proselyte one.

Thanks HPANA!

Davids and Dan
Posted by Megs

On two separate occasions the Harry Potter producers (David Heyman and David Barron) and Daniel Radcliffehave let us in on some Deathly Hallows news.

The Davids say:

“We won’t start filming [Deathly Hallows] ’til February next year. So it hasn’t really gone bananas yet. We’ve got thoughts [on who will direct], and I’m sure something will be announced in the not-too-distant future.”

The only negative of splitting the book into two films, says Barron, “is that people could possibly perceive it as being one last chance at cashing in. But the real positive, if we were to do that, would be that we wouldn’t have quite the battle we always have of ‘How do you compress all that book into just over two hours of screen time?’

While Daniel states:

“I have no idea how that rumour started or where it came from. It’s not true. How’s that for a definitive answer?  It’s absolute rubbish that Spielberg is directing the final film. It’s not true. There’s absolutely no foundation in that at all.”

On the subject of the sixth movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, he added: “We’re getting through it alright. I’m really enjoying it. We’re about six months in and we’ve only got four more to go.”

No Fleur in HBP
Posted by Megs

In a new interview Clemence Posey has announced that she has not been contacted to reprise the roll of Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which means that Fleur is not in the film.  She also discusses her new film and more.

Poesy told MTV News that she’s not back in what she calls “Harry Potter world” just yet and won’t be appearing in “Half-Blood Prince” — which probably means that the subplot of her character’s engagement to Bill Weasley has been cut out or is only a mention, no actual scenes.
