Magical Mischief & More Announced for WB Studio Tour London’s 2022 Lineup of Events
Posted by Megs

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London has announced some of its 2022 special events and activities including the brand new “Magical Mischief” event from January through May. Full details on this new feature are below:

Magical Mischief

Saturday 22nd January – Sunday 1st May 2022

Brand new for 2022, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is set to reveal the filmmaking trickery behind the Harry Potter film series as it shines a spotlight on magical pranks and mishaps in the new feature, Magical Mischief

Visitors to the Studio Tour will learn how their favourite mischievous moments from the films were brought to the screen in this exciting feature. Entering the Great Hall, fans will recognise the set dressed for a Weasley prank on the peaceful O.W.L.s exam, complete with the swinging pendulum under the watchful eye of Dolores Umbridge. From the fan-favourite scene in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the infamous pink two-piece costume of Dolores Umbridge will be centre stage and visitors should look above to see the playful Weasley twins’ costumes on their broomsticks suspended from the Great Hall ceiling.

Demonstrations throughout the Studio Tour during this feature include how clever camera trickery created the disappearing effect of the invisibility cloak and visitors will also be able to get hands on to make their own origami howler, just like the one Mrs Weasley delivered to her son in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The Studio Tour will be highlighting the magical mishaps that happen throughout the films including how the SFX Team created the infamous fireplace letter scene inside 4 Privet Drive and Fred and George Weasley’s accidental beards and burned costumes after they put their names into the Goblet of Fire, created by the Creature Effects Team. Eagle-eyed visitors will spot a number of pesky Cornish Pixies on the loose around the Studio Tour and are invited to find them all and collect stamps as part of their Marauder’s Map activity passport.

Fan favorites Dark Arts and Hogwarts in the Snow are also returning for 2022 and early 2023.

Dark Arts

Friday 23rd September – Sunday 6th November

The Studio Tour’s popular Dark Arts feature will return for Hallowe’en in 2022 with the Great Hall ceiling decorated with over 100 floating pumpkins as well as a spooky feast of lollipops and red apples dressed along the tables. Visitors are invited to follow the Dark Mark trail, try their wand combat moves against Death Eaters in a live duel as they storm the Studio Tour, all before walking down a darker Platform 9 ¾ and a spookier Diagon Alley.

Hogwarts in the Snow

Saturday 12th November – Sunday 15th January 2023

2022 will conclude with the return of the Yule Ball for Hogwarts in the Snow, running from Saturday 12th November – Sunday 15th January 2023. The festive makeover will see the Great Hall transformed with the icy silvers of the iconic Yule Ball scenes. The Gryffindor common room will be dressed for the season and a blanket of filmmaking snow will cover the Forbidden Forest, Diagon Alley and the magnificent Hogwarts castle model.

Visitors to the Studio Tour can enjoy the limited feature “A Celebration of Slytherin,” fly a broomstick over London, and still grab a refreshing glass of Butterbeer during their visit. An addition has also been made to the Slytherin feature – a 25ft section of the Slytherin Common Room was built during the closure.

The Studio Tour has also undergone a specialised clean to ensure that every set, costume and enchanting prop is spic and span, ready to astound fans.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is set to reopen to visitors on Monday 17th May for the first time since its closure in December 2020. Due to popular demand, visitors are welcomed back to the Celebration of Slytherin feature which first ran last year. For those who missed it, visitors will enter through the Great Hall doors to be greeted by a sea of green as the Slytherin house banners are suspended from the enchanted ceiling, in reference to the final scenes in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. A number of original costumes belonging to Slytherin’s most esteemed witches and wizards are also on display including those of Draco Malfoy and Lord Voldemort.

Geoff Spooner, SVP and General Manager at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London said ‘’we are extremely excited to be welcoming visitors back to the Studio Tour next week. The measures we have in place ensure visitors will have both a safe and magical experience as they walk in the footsteps of the filmmakers who brought the Harry Potter films to life.’’

The Studio Tour will reopen with a range of safety measures in place including reduced capacity, regular enhanced cleaning and requiring all visitors to wear a face mask or covering, unless seated in a café or restaurant. Following government guidance, all visitors aged 16 and over must display proof of NHS Test & Trace Venue Check In on arrival or pre-register their details with Warner Bros. Studio Tour London. Further details will be provided to visitors with a booking in their pre-visit email and are also available to view here –www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/covid-19.

Step on to the cobbled streets of Diagon Alley, drink a Butterbeer in the Backlot café or enjoy one of the SFX experiences the Studio Tour has to offer. Tickets are now available to purchase for visits until December 2021 via www.wbstudiotour.co.uk.

First Look: Snow on Diagon Alley at Warner Bros. Studio Tour
Posted by Megs

As we shared back in October, Hogwarts in the Snow is returning to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London this year! After a brief closure due to COVID-19 it has reopened the doors to the Great Hall, welcoming visitors back with the annual festive feature Hogwarts in the Snow. They are continuing to implement safety measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for all.

Hogwarts in the Snow will run from Thursday 3rd December – Sunday 17th January 2021. Tickets must be pre-booked, and all extra features are included in the ticket price.

See more preview photos in the gallery!

New for 2020, the cobbled stones and magical shop fronts of Diagon Alley will be given a festive makeover, draped in layers of filmmaking snow. During filming, many different types of ‘snow’ were used, each selected for its ability to crunch under foot, float like falling flakes or glisten in the light like ice, but never melt. The same techniques will be used by filmmakers to cover the magical shopping street this year. Though Diagon Alley was not seen in the snow, the same set was used for parts of Hogsmeade during the wintery scenes that see Harry make use of his invisibility cloak to join the school trip without permission.

Hogwarts in the Snow Returning to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – with MORE Snow!
Posted by Megs

A fan favorite feature is returning to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London this year – Hogwarts in the Snow! They’ve even added more snow this year with visitors able to experience Diagon Alley covered in snow. In previous years a small area of Diagon Alley was used to show how they made Harry’s invisibility cloak footprints, but this year the whole set will be decked out in snow from the cobblestones to the store fronts!

Fans of the Harry Potter films are invited to get into the festive spirit as Warner Bros. Studio Tour London’s annual Hogwarts in the Snow feature returns! For the very first time, from Saturday 14th November – Sunday 17th January 2021, visitors will be able to explore another of their favourite sets in the snow as Diagon Alley undergoes a wintery transformation.

A popular fan favourite, the Hogwarts castle model will also be transformed with a dusting of snow again this year. During filming, a member of the crew climbed aboard an elevated work platform and sprinkled the mixture of granulated paper and grains of salt onto the model by hand with a sieve – like dusting sugar onto a cake. The same process takes place at the Studio Tour every festive season.

As visitors step foot onto the original stone floor of the Great Hall, they will be welcomed with wreaths, garlands and trees topped with witches on miniature broomsticks. The long dining tables will be dressed as they were for the seasonal feast in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, complete with SFX flaming Christmas puddings and prop versions of the mouth-watering roast turkeys and hams studded with cherries.

In addition, many more of the iconic sets housed at the Studio Tour will receive a festive makeover. The Gryffindor Common Room and Boys’ Dormitory will be decorated with the original props including handmade Christmas cards, some of which were created by the cast members during production. Fireplaces throughout the Studio Tour (including those in the Leaky Cauldron and Great Hall) will be ‘lit’ with special effects fire, created by John Richardson and the SFX team using a combination of water vapour and lighting effects.

Hogwarts in the Snow runs from 14th November 2020 until 17th January 2021 and tickets are now available to purchase via www.wbstudiotour.co.uk. Tickets must be pre-booked, and all extra features are included in the ticket price.

COVID-19 Update: To help keep everyone safe, a number of additional measures and changes have been made to the Studio Tour experience. The updates are designed to prioritise social distancing and enhanced cleaning. Visitors are advised to familiarise themselves with the Studio Tour’s safety measures before visiting: https://www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/updates/safety-measures/
