Starlog magazine has a 12 page feature on Harry Potter in their July issue.  There are interviews with screenwriter Michael Goldenberg, director David Yates, and producer David Heyman. David Yates also talks about pre-production for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which comes out November 21, 2008.

WB has been scouting areas in Scotland for possible locations to use for filming in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

The main locations that were checked out were:

• Smoo Cave, near Durness, which is 200ft long, 130ft wide, and 50ft tall at its entrance
• Clo Mor, near Cape Wrath, which at 921ft, are the highest cliffs on the UK mainland
• The arches under Cape Wrath, which contain a string of long caves
• Stac Clo Kearvaig, a tower of rock that rises 130ft above the waves near Cape Wrath
• The cave at the Whaligoe Steps, which lies in a bay enclosed by two large sea cliffs

Some movie directors talk about what they would do for the final Harry Potter films.

Tom Tykwer (“Perfume”): “What I like about the ‘Harry Potter’ series is, the older Harry gets, the more scary the movies are, and I think I would push for the scary parts more than what has been done. It’s getting there. I’m curious how far they’re daring to go there.”

David Fincher (“Zodiac”): “Could I make it darker than Alfonso’s? I don’t know. [Should Harry die?] As all good teenagers must.”

Rumours are spreading that Australian actress, Naomi Watts, will be playing Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter films.  She claims that she is more British than Australian. More on this as it develops.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix director David Yates has confirmed that he will be directing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in a new interview with Scifi Wire.

He says:

I am doing Half-Blood Prince, and I’m doing it because I love the world, I love the characters.  I think I have more business with this world and these characters.

I’ve made a kind of tonal shift with the fifth film, which I want to continue and develop into the sixth film.  And I can see the fifth story evolving into the sixth story in a really interesting way. So I’m on a journey with this material and this world, and I’m keen to complete it.

Icelandic actor Jón Páll Eyjólfsson has arrived back from England where he auditioned for a role in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

He said,

I have met the people who are behind this film and I have read from the script. At this stage you only get to see parts of the script and there is a lot of secrecy about this whole thing

He went to school with Steven Kloves, who wrote the script for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Kloves suggested him for the role.
