In a new video interview with The Wall Street Journal, Daniel Radcliffe discusses Broadway and the differences between American and British humor, entrance applause and his future films.
Yahoo Movies has shared a brand new trailer for Daniel Radcliffe’s upcoming film, What If, formerly titled The F Word. They also had the chance to interview Dan about the film.
And, fun little tidbit, Rafe Spall is also in the film. If Spall sounds familiar it’s because he is the son of Timothy Spall, aka Peter Pettigrew.
What If raises the age-old question of whether or not men and women can just be friends. What have you learned about that from your own life?
Daniel Radcliffe: I’ve got loads of female friends, but I think it’s a different question when sexual or romantic attractions come into play. Can two people who are romantically attracted to each other just be friends? Possibly not, because I think in the end, you’re always going to end up having the conversation. It may be that you have the conversation where you confess your undying love for her and then you work it out from there. Or it may be that you end up getting together, or it may be that you end up never speaking again.
At what point in filming did you realize you and Zoe had chemistry together? DR: I think it was probably the first scene in the diner, when we were just throwing stuff out there and trying to make each other laugh. I made her laugh a couple of times, and I always think that’s a good sign. It was obvious from then that we were going to be able to work well together and play off each other well.
And, as always, they included a few Potter questions:
Are you excited about the new Harry Potter spin-off? DR: Yes, I am. I’m now in that fortunate position of just being a fan like everyone else. [I’m] intrigued to see what they’re doing with these films.
Would you be willing to do a cameo? DR: We’re dealing in total hypotheticals, because they haven’t asked. But “No” would be the answer. It’s really not an issue with those [new] films, because they’re set 100 years in the past. It’s the same world, but a totally different set of characters.
In a new interview with The Daily Beast, Daniel Radcliffe addresses a bunch of recent rumors as well as discussing some plays. The full interview will be out later this Summer. First, he squashed the rumors that he and his girlfriend are engaged:
“No! Absolute bollocks. Absolute bollocks,” says Radcliffe, adding, “I don’t think we can even give the Daily Mail credit for that one. It was Star, I believe. It was funny. I got a text from my English teacher saying, ‘Is it true? Congratulations!’ and I had to text her back, ‘I’m afraid not! We’re very happy, but we’re not getting married.’ Marriage is not a thought that is even remotely close to me at the moment.”
That was followed by some Potter talk. It was recently announced that Dan, Emma and Rupert filmed new scenes for the Diagon Alley portion of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. And while that may be true, many news outlets were reporting that the trio were set to reunite AGAIN. Dan said:
“I know nothing about that,” he says. “They may very well be using existing footage that we’d already filmed for the movies, but I have had no calls or involvement in that. A while ago they asked me to do more stuff for the theme park, and that was my moment to try and draw a line because that theme park is going to keep expanding, and keep going to more countries, and there’s going to come a point where I’m going to be 30 years old, and if I was still doing that then, that would be a huge problem.” He adds, “I wish them all the luck in the world and I genuinely think that what they did with the theme park in Florida is fantastic, and they really did a great job.”
Finally, he mentioned that he is not involved with the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themfilms and it has been quite a while since he and his Potter co-stars have hung out.
“The last person I saw from Potter was Rupert, actually, and I saw him a couple of months ago at a theater awards thing in London,” says Radcliffe. “I also saw him in this play in London he did, Mojo, and he was brilliant in it. It’s a dark play about gangsters in the ’50s. But yeah, that’s really the extent of my contact. I haven’t spoken to Emma in a long, long while, but we’re all busy, and it’s been exciting to work with different people.”
The first clip of Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan in What If? has been released. The film, formerly titled The F Word, will be released in US theatres on August 1st.
Newsday has posted a new interview with Daniel Radcliffe where he talks about his career and newest projects such as Frankenstein and The Cripple of Inishmaan. One of the questions was about his role as Igor in the new rendition of Frankenstein, out in 2015.
Tell me about Igor — only one of the most beloved characters ever. This film has a new take?
There are so many Frankenstein stories out there. It’s like Max Landis has sewn together the dead corpses of other Frankenstein films, books and mythologies to make this. Igor gets a backstory, which we’ve never seen before, and the relationship between him and Dr. Frankenstein is more level. A lot of it is just Victor going insane and me trying to drag him back from the edge. But, yeah, it’s a really good dark adventure movie.
Will there be a hump?
There will. Not for the whole film, though, so I’ll leave that to your imagination.
He also mentions Kill Your Darlings and What If? (previously called The F Word):
She [a fan] wondered what your favorite post-Harry role has been.
Probably Ginsberg in “Kill Your Darlings.” That’s a bit old for her. There’s a film coming out in August called “What If?” A sweet, lovely romantic comedy.
Ah, you hang out and play suave?
Oh, no — not suave. I don’t get cast as suave. I get cast as charmingly self-deprecating and a little bit nervy.
As we reported earlier in the week, Daniel Radcliffe is making the television rounds to promote The Cripple of Inishmaan and appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night and The Today Show this morning. Videos of both appearances are now online and may be watched below:
