Today the winner of The Woman in Black Ghost Story competition was announced! The competition opened on Halloween and 177 fans sent in their ghost stories. They were wittled down to 10 and voted on at the end of December. The winner’s story will be read by Daniel Radcliffe on the films DVD. The following press release, sent over by Monument Pictures, reveals the winner:
The votes have been closed and counted and the winning video for THE WOMAN IN BLACK’S YouTube competition to find the UK’s spookiest ghost story has been chosen. Budding young writer Nicola Torch, 16, from Lancashire beat 177 other haunting and harrowing tales to become the winning entry with her story ‘Fear of Hue’.
Launched on Halloween by Daniel Radcliffe, the star of upcoming ghost story chiller, THE WOMAN IN BLACK, the competition challenged writers of all ages to submit their own original ghost story video to the film’s official YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/thewomaninblackmovie).
The competition was a resounding success and the ghostly tales were shortlisted to ten finalists based on the following judging criteria: creativity, originality and writing style.
Nicky’s video made it to the final 10 shortlisted entries going through to the public vote, and winning a trip to attend the Worldwide Premiere of THE WOMAN IN BLACK on 24th January 2012. Her winning story will be read out by Daniel Radcliffe and included in the bonus features of THE WOMAN IN BLACK DVD.
Talking about winning the competition, Nicky says, “I entered but I had no idea I would win, I was happy enough to get in the top 10 and I can’t wait to see Daniel read my story!”
The film opens in the USA on February 3rd and on February 10th in the UK and Ireland! The world premiere will be held in London on January 24th and Magical-Menagerie should be on hand to interview the cast.
Today we received word that The Woman in Black will have it’s World Premiere on January 24th in at the Royal Festival Hall. Daniel Radcliffe, Ciarán Hinds, screenwriter Jane Goldman and director James Watkins are set to attend with more stars to be announced closer to the date.
Based on the classic ghost story, THE WOMAN IN BLACK tells the tale of Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a lawyer who is forced to leave his young son and travel to a remote village to attend to the affairs of the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House. Working alone in the old mansion, Kipps begins to uncover the town’s tragic and tortured secrets and his fears escalate when he discovers that local children have been disappearing under mysterious circumstances. When those closest to him become threatened by the vengeful woman in black, Kipps must find a way to break the cycle of terror.
Parade Magazine has posted a preview of their interview with Daniel Radclife. The full interview will appear in this weekend’s PARADE magazine. Some snippets may be read below:
Why was that?
“I hated dating because I’m crap at it! [laughs] With Rosie, I didn’t know what was appropriate, like on which date you’re supposed to try and kiss her. At the end of the second date I pulled a move out of the Bela Lugosi Book of Woo—I went to kiss Rosie and at the last minute lost my nerve and ended up kissing her neck, which is such a weirdly intimate place to kiss somebody on a second date. Afterward, I texted her, saying, ‘I’m sorry, what I just did probably seems very odd to you.’ Fortunately, she just found it really funny, so she kept coming back.”
Last year you gave up alcohol. Why?
“My inner life was being drowned. I’ve worked with Richard Harris, Gary Oldman, all those actors who went crazy when they were young, and I always wanted that. The idea of that kind of life and chaos was always so appealing to me. Unfortunately, the way I do it, there is no romance to it! [laughs] There is nothing glorious or triumphant about it—it was pathetic, boring, and unhappy.”
You’ve had enormous success for someone so young. Do you fear that it won’t last?
“Yes. But it’s reality, not fear. It will happen, and I have accepted that. In a way it’s a great relief that I will never, ever do a film as successful as the Harry Potter series. But neither will anybody else. [laughs] Or it will take them a long time.”
Yesterday, January 1st, was Daniel Radcliffe’s final performance as J. Pierrepont Finch in the Broadway show How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. As we posted back last month, Daniel was named Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainer of the Year and, more recently, Broadway.com fans voted him as Star of the Year. A video of his co-stars congratulating him on the honor may be seen here on Broadway.com.
After his performance on Sunday, Daniel made a speech thanking the fans for their support and the cast and crew of the show for working with him. Congratulations Daniel on an amazing run as Mr Finch. I was fortunate enough to see the show back in July and Daniel was amazing, for those of you that also saw the play, what did you think?
