Lumos, the charitable organization co-founded by J. K. Rowling, has organized a campaign that will take place on International Children’s Day.  Some more information on the Light a Birthday Candle for Lumos Campaign may be read below:

On International Children’s Day this year (1 June 2010), Lumos is asking people to light a birthday candle for thousands of children in large residential institutions who are unable to celebrate their birthdays.

Year after year, the staff looking after children in these institutions across central and eastern Europe cannot give them the one-to-one attention that they so desperately need. That is why 1 June, International Children’s Day, is often chosen as a day to celebrate birthdays, however the notion of a child’s individuality is lost – with many children never knowing their actual birth date. The Light a Birthday Candle for Lumos campaign will encourage families, friends, employees and community groups to raise vital funds by hosting a ‘birthday’ party and lighting a candle.
