Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Launches Year 5, New Characters, Classes & Adventures
Posted by Megs

Today, players can head back to school in the mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery with the commencement of Year 5 content in the game, beginning the most exciting year at Hogwarts yet, with a host of new mysteries to unravel. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is the first mobile game where players can create their own character and experience life as a Hogwarts student. From the press release:

In Year 5, players return to Hogwarts for their most rigorous year of studies yet, and important milestones in the curriculum. Players that earned their prefect badge in Year 4 will take on the responsibilities of the role, while enjoying access to a new location in the game, the prefect’s bathroom. But all Year 5 students are faced with an even bigger test than earning the badge:  taking their Ordinary Wizarding Levels (O.W.L.) exams.

As Year 5 unfolds, players will head into new territory – and mischief – exploring decidedly dodgy areas like Knockturn Alley. Back on school grounds, players will learn from new professors like the lauded, but legendarily long-winded History of Magic Professor, Cuthbert Binns and the identity of the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor will be revealed. Outside of classes, players will cross paths with more members of the Weasley clan and other familiar characters from the Wizarding World.

Year 5 brings the most robust year of content yet to the game, and we’re excited for players to start this new chapter.”

Eddie Redmayne & Jude Law Surprise Fans at Platform 9 3/4
Posted by Megs

This morning, Wizarding World fans at King’s Cross railway station for “Back to Hogwarts” Day got the surprise of their lives when Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law, stars of the highly anticipated new big-screen adventure Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, apparated on Platform 9 ¾ to join the festivities and lead the countdown to the 11:00 AM departure of the Hogwarts Express.

From the press release:

The annual gathering is a big moment for the U.K.’s massive population of Harry Potter fans. Each year on September 1st, they flock to King’s Cross by the thousands, often dressed as their favorite character from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, to commemorate the day young wizards and witches from across the U.K. make their way to Platform 9 ¾ to board the iconic steamer that whisks them off to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Fans lined up for hours at a popular photo point to get a shot of themselves pushing a luggage trolley “through” the brick wall to recreate Harry and others’ passage through the magical barrier and onto Platform 9 ¾, with staff on-hand to help with the finishing touches, such as their Hogwarts scarf. But in the place of staff members, fans reached the front of the line to find none other than Redmayne and Law standing by to assist.

Following a lively round of photos, the two stars led the countdown to the 11:00 AM departure of the Hogwarts Express.

In the new film, Redmayne once again stars as Magizoologist Newt Scamander, with Law taking on the iconic role of Newt’s friend and one-time professor, Albus Dumbledore, decades before he becomes Headmaster at Hogwarts.

Fans can look forward to experiencing Hogwarts again when Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the second of five all new adventures in the Wizarding World, comes to cinemas on 16 November, 2018, from Warner Bros. Pictures.

JK Rowling and Fantastic Beasts Cast reminisce over their favorite Hogwarts memories
Posted by Megs

In honor of Back to Hogwarts tomorrow, JK Rowling and the cast of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald reminisce over their favorite Hogwarts memories in a new featurette! Check out the below featurette celebrating #BackToHogwarts tomorrow, September 1st! How will you be celebrating?

Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is the second of five all new adventures in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World™.

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

The film features an ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Carmen Ejogo, Poppy Corby-Tuech, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling. The film is produced by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. Tim Lewis, Neil Blair, Rick Senat and Danny Cohen serve as executive producers.

The film reunites the behind-the-scenes creative team from the first “Fantastic Beasts” film, including Oscar-winning director of photography Philippe Rousselot (“A River Runs Through It”), three-time Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig (“The English Patient,” “Dangerous Liaisons,” “Gandhi,” the “Harry Potter” films), four-time Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (“Chicago,” “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”), and Yates’ longtime editor Mark Day (the last four “Harry Potter” films). The music is by eight-time Oscar nominee James Newton Howard (“Defiance,” “Michael Clayton,” “The Hunger Games” films).

Slated for release on November 16, 2018, the film will be distributed worldwide in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX by Warner Bros. Pictures.

HOGWARTS AFTER DARK EVENTS RETURN TO WARNER BROS. STUDIO TOUR LONDON THIS HALLOWE’EN

Following last year’s incredibly popular ‘Hogwarts After Dark’ events, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is once again inviting brave witches, wizards and Muggles to enjoy a magical Hallowe’en evening on the set of the Hogwarts Great Hall on 26th-28th October.

Guests attending ‘Hogwarts after Dark’ will begin their magical evening with smoking dry ice cocktails and canapés before stepping onto the red carpet through the doors of the wizarding school into the Great Hall, which will be completely transformed for Hallowe’en. The Great Hall will be decorated with over 100 floating pumpkins, as seen on screen in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone while the long tables will be laden with a Hallowe’en feast of red apples, pumpkins and cauldrons of lollipops.

After stepping into the actual Great Hall set that was used for filming, guests will enjoy a delicious two-course dinner and drinks surrounded by the original props and costumes. All before grabbing a lantern and following the spiders into the newly opened Forbidden Forest where dessert will be served in the company of magical creatures such as Buckbeak the Hippogriff and Aragog the Acromantula.

Throughout the evening, Death Eaters will be roaming the Tour dressed in the original costumes from the film series allowing guests to see up close the intricate details of the embroidered robes and hand-painted masks. After dinner, guests are invited to explore the Studio Tour after hours, admiring sets such as the Gryffindor common room and the Weasley’s kitchen from The Burrow, before meeting members of the Prop Making Department who will be revealing the filmmaking secrets behind the ceiling full of enchanted pumpkins.

The evening continues with the chance to learn wand combat moves from Wand Choreographer, Paul Harris, in preparation for a live duel with Death Eaters. A refreshing glass of Butterbeer will be provided in the backlot café and guests will then have the opportunity to explore a darker Diagon Alley as the lights are dimmed, the music becomes more foreboding and the wizarding shopping street set is patrolled by Death Eaters. The evening will conclude with the opportunity to pick up your complimentary Souvenir Guidebook
