With just over a week away until Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters, J.K. Rowling and the cast discuss the beloved character Dumbledore in this new featurette. Make sure you get your tickets for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, out November 16th!
Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is the second of five all new adventures in the Wizarding World™ created by J.K. Rowling.
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
The film features an ensemble cast led by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Carmen Ejogo, Poppy Corby-Tuech, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp.
“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling. The film is produced by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. Tim Lewis, Neil Blair, Rick Senat and Danny Cohen serve as executive producers.
Slated for release on November 16, 2018, the film will be distributed worldwide in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX by Warner Bros. Pictures.
The West End’s Wyndham’s Theatre play ‘Red’ will be holding screenings with a recording of the production in select theaters across the UK and North America today. Alfred Enoch, best known to readers of this site as Dean Thomas, plays Ken in this production. Ken is the assistant to artist Mark Rothko, played by Alfred Molina. It is a revival of the 2009 production which also starred Alfred Molina but Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts) played the assistant. Tickets are still available for some theaters and may be purchased here.
A clip from the play may be watched below:
Filmed at the Wyndham’s Theatre, where it completes its run on 28 July, the production is based on Grandage’s original 2009 Donmar Warehouse production, that went on to win six Tony Awards including for Best Play and Best Direction of a Play.
“I am delighted that the original production of Red will be screened worldwide for all to see as part of MGC’s commitment to reach as wide an audience as possible. It has enjoyed a long life that has included the Donmar, Broadway, LA and finally the West End, so it is particularly wonderful that it will be broadcast in cinemas later this year with Alfred Molina and Alfred Enoch on stage at the Wyndham’s Theatre.” Michael Grandage
“To me the release of the original production of Red in cinemas feels like a natural conclusion to a run that began a decade ago in London. I’m thrilled that a wider audience will get to share in the work of these two extraordinary actors – especially the towering presence of Alfred Molina, who began this journey with Michael Grandage and me so long ago. Working on Red has always been a joy and privilege, and I’m thrilled to have this consummate production of my play preserved on film.” John Logan
“The richness of Red is illustrated by the fantastic acclaim from press and audiences alike and we cannot wait to bring this outstanding production starring Alfred Molina and Alfred Enoch to cinemas across the UK and USA. We are excited to collaborate with Michael Grandage and the team at MGC for the release of one of the most important theatre events of the decade.” Alice De Rosa, Director of Distribution, Trafalgar Releasing
Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant, and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Mark Rothko takes on his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting.
The cast of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald spent the day on Thursday, November 1st celebrating the Wizarding World with students and community from Parkside School in Baileyton, Alabama. This morning was the official opening of the Lumos Wand Installation in London! The Grenadier Guards performed a live rendition of music from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, as nine giant wands lit up Peter’s Hill in London for the first time when Fantastic Beasts: Wizarding World Wands supporting Lumos opened to the public earlier today. Unfortunately we were unable to attend the event due to timing but Lumos have sent over some wonderful photos from the event that you can see on our Facebook!
The new installation, part of the City of London Arts Initiative for public art, was created to help raise awareness for J.K. Rowling’s international children’s charity Lumos in the lead-up to the 16th November release of Warner Bros. Pictures’ highly anticipated new Wizarding World™ adventure Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Head prop maker Pierre Bohanna, who created the wands used in the Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter films in close collaboration with J.K. Rowling, was at the event and spoke about how it felt to see his props transformed into fifteen-foot models to be enjoyed by the public. “It’s amazing to see something you’ve worked on for two decades celebrated in such an awe-inspiring way,” Bohanna stated. “Each of these wands were born in the extraordinary imagination of J.K. Rowling, and bringing them to life has been a labour of love for Stuart Craig, myself, and all the filmmakers, artists and actors who’ve had a hand in their creation for the films. To now see them realized in truly larger-than-life fashion for fans to enjoy is truly gratifying, and I thank Wild Creations for their wonderful work.”
Beginning today, the giant wands will illuminate Peter’s Hill from 6:45 p.m., with a short light display to music every 30 minutes, and deluminate at 10:45 p.m. each evening until 13th November.
Fans visiting the installation can also attend the following activities taking place at the site each Wizarding Wednesday:
Wednesday, 24th October: Bring your wands and watch wand demonstrator Paul Harris reveal how to cast spells;
Wednesday, 31st October (Halloween): Come and listen to a talk on the wands, with a particular focus on the Dark Arts;
Wednesday, 7th November: Watch a military marching band perform music from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.
The partnership with Lumos, whose mission is to end the harmful institutionalisation of children around the world, is being commemorated by a limited edition wand pin badge that will be sold to the public to raise vital funds for the charity’s work.
