Harry Melling Talks Weight Loss and More In New Interview
Posted by Megs

Harry Melling, who played Dudley Dursley in the Potter films, was interviewed by The Daily Mail and he discussed his dramatic weight loss since completing filming for Potter. He is currently in a new play, The Hothouse, by Harold Pinter which is running on the West End until August 3rd.

Although his weight always fluctuated it was when he was 15 and playing a fat old man in a play at the National Youth Theatre that he decided to lose it for good. ‘I was fat because I got bored easily and when I was bored I would eat,’ he says.

‘I was an active kid, I used to dance – yes, really – and I was sporty. But I liked eating. It was when I was playing this old fat dad I realised I didn’t want play those roles for the rest of my life. So I started running; I suppose you could say it was a Forrest Gump moment, I just didn’t stop.

I also started eating healthily and going to the gym.’ Now, apart from at Harry Potter events, he walks about largely unrecognised and couldn’t be happier. ‘It’s a godsend,’ he sighs. ‘No one recognises me on the Tube.’

He briefly mentioned his on-screen father, Richard Griffiths in the interview. Fans will recall that Richard passed away after a surgery a couple months ago. ‘It’s so sad he’s gone,’ Harry says quietly. ‘The thing I remember most about him was he never stopped talking; he could talk for England. He was a tremendous man – and he was someone who didn’t want “fat roles”, just good roles.’

Emma Watson To Work on New Film Franchise with Potter’s David Heyman
Posted by Megs

Variety is reporting the news that Emma Watson will be an executive producer on a new film franchise based on the The Queen of the Tearling trilogy of books.  Harry Potter producer David Heyman will also be a producer for the films. It is assumed, although not confirmed, that Emma will also star in the film.

The books, by Erika Johansen will be published by Harper Collins beginning in 2014. The trilogy has been called a female “Game of Thrones” and is set three centuries after an environmental catastrophe when a malevolent Red Queen holds considerable power.  According to Variety, the 19-year-old female lead, Kelsea Glynn, was partly inspired by a speech she heard Barack Obama, then a senator, give  in 2007.

From a press release in February, Harper Collins revealed that the book is:

“a female-oriented Game of Thrones that is also an insightful human story whose heroine is grappling with the both the daily realities of coming-of-age and the ethical dilemmas of ruling justly–all while simply trying to stay alive.” Set three centuries after a small portion of the human race has populated a landmass that mysteriously emerged in the wake of an environmental catastrophe, the series follows nineteen-year-old princess Kelsea Glynn, who must reclaim her deceased mother’s throne and redeem her kingdom, the Tearling, from forces of corruption and dark magic of The Red Queen, the sorceress-tyrant of the neighboring country, Mortmesne. According to Ziv, “Erika’s masterful storytelling, combined with her ability to transport the reader to another fully-realized world, makes her an exciting new talent.”
