Stephen Fry Given Award; Dan Participates in Tribute Video
Posted by Megs

Stephen Fry (narrater of the UK audiobooks) was given the Special Recognition prize at the National Television awards. Daniel Radcliffe contributed to a tribute video that was played during the ceremony. You can watch it below:

Dan had this to say:

  • 1:18 – He’s a director, he’s an actor, he’s a writer, I’ve probably missed things out
  • 1:50 – I love, love, love A Bit of Fry and Laurie.
  • 2:30 – I do think Stephen is an absolutely perfect Jeeves, and I would want him to be my Jeeves in real life. He’d be rather wonderful.
  • 2:50 – There’s something about him which is warm. Just having him on television makes life brighter for everyone.
  • 3:20 – I do think the program QI is one of the greatest educators in the country. I don’t think you can watch that show and not smile.
  • 4:45 – I’ve got a very good friend who, every night, after coming home from university goes to sleep listening to Stephen read the Harry Potter books on tape because he just does it so wonderfully.
  • 5:46 – Once you are in a position where people will watch something because of you, you have to become even more selective about what you do. Like drawing attention to bipolarism.
  • 7:18 – I think that he’s one of the most important people in the country. He’s one of the reasons we are great. Just occasionally, our country produces people like him.

Thanks SS!

New Article on Alice in Wonderland
Posted by Megs

Canada.com has a new article online about the new film Alice in Wonderland with Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter, Timothy Spall, Frances de la Tour and Stephen Fry.

Besides Depp as the maddest of Hatters, other headliners include Burton’s wife Helena Bonham Carter who plays The Red Queen and Anne Hathaway defining The White Queen. Newcomer Mia Wasikowska portrays Alice who will be an older teen and, word has it, more empowered than previous Alice incarnations.

Fans will notice other adjustments, but the most obvious will be Bonham Carter’s character – whose face is enlarged three times its normal size as the nasty and nuanced royal one – portraying an amalgamation of The Red Queen and the Queen of Hearts.

Others who may or may not be recognizable? Alan Rickman, Snape in the Harry Potter pictures, is the Caterpillar’s voice with the composite of his face digitally applied. Michael Sheen, last seen as David Frost in Frost/Nixon, portrays the White Rabbit, Stephen Fry is the Cheshire Cat. Christopher Lee is the Jabberwocky and Crispin Glover shows up as the Knave of Hearts.

HP Stars: dream team of stars that should help run the country
Posted by Megs

MSN UK News has made up list for a “dream team of stars that should help run the country”.  Included on the list are Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Stephen Fry and Julie Walters!

Julie Walters:
Title: Secretary of State for one thing and another
She’s Britain’s First Auntie, always ready with a kindly word and a shoulder to lean or cry on. Domestic squabbles, municipal tiffs, a bit of bother with the state of the pavements down your high street: Julie would know what to do and how to do it.

Daniel Radcliffe:
Title: Chancellor of the Exchequer
Comes replete with obvious wizardry credentials, essential to help us out of the global economic crisis.

Stephen Fry:
Title: Father of the nation
Writer, presenter, comedian, broadcaster, dramatist, actor, full-time national treasure and all-round good egg. What more needs to be said?
